Chapter 555 - Chapter 555 Ambush on the Way (2/2)

The walls were bustling with people, signifying that the number of personnel responsible for defense was far from few.

Chen Yu was driving his car when he was abruptly stopped as he reached the city gates. Read exclusive chapters at Novgo

“Halt, didn’t you see what place this is, daring to charge in recklessly! Do you have an identity token? Do you have an invitation?”

Chen Yu nonchalantly tossed out the jade token he had taken from the big man earlier.

The person looked at the jade token and quickly returned it with respect.

“So it’s a brother from the patrols outside,” welcome, come on in!”

Without a word, Chen Yu pocketed the jade token and drove straight into the city.

Just after finding a place to park his car, several sleazy-looking men approached him, one of them directly holding out a broken bowl to Chen Yu.

“Bro, you must’ve gotten your hands on some nice stuff, coming back from outside. Let’s split half of what you’ve got—fork some over!”

The others also closed in, shaking the bowls in their hands.

Chen Yu frowned and immediately scanned the brains of these thugs for information.

Indeed, these men were nothing but local ruffians living by swindling and deceiving.

However, their sources were remarkably well-informed; they knew about everything that happened inside or outside the city as soon as it happened. With this advantage, they often conducted trades with the patrolling teams.

They came over with iron bowls, intending to exchange the news in their heads for some of Chen Yu’s money.

Unfortunately for them, Chen Yu had already scanned all the information in their brains.

“Do you know who I am?”

Chen Yu stepped forward and slapped the leader’s face, knocking him to the ground.

The man was instantly dazed, and the others stood frozen in place.

Their alliance with the patrol teams was supposed to be unbreakable, and now the other side had attacked them.

“Are you trying to ruin the relationship between us? Don’t forget, your boss Tang Hu and I are sworn brothers,” the man retorted.

Chen Yu didn’t care for that and slapped him again.

“I’m hitting you with our leader’s permission today. Scram or I’ll wipe you all out,” he threatened.

The crowd didn’t dare stay any longer and scurried away in a panic.

A sly smile flickered across Chen Yu’s lips.

His purpose for coming here was to create chaos in this city and ideally take it under his control. Now inside, he needed to think of ways to cause as much turmoil as possible.

He didn’t linger, but walked towards an inn, swaying the jade token in his hand.

As he passed an antique shop, he felt a chill breeze by his ear and hastily took several steps back.

A young man in his twenties was thrown out of the shop, crashing heavily onto the ground while gripping a long, rectangular box.

“Damn it, I’ve told you before, your junk isn’t worth anything, don’t bring it here again! If you come back, I’ll burn this thing of yours!” the shopkeeper shouted.

The young man sat on the ground, clutching the box, and burst into tears.

“You came to my door claiming this painting was worth eight hundred thousand, so why do you say it’s only worth eight hundred when I bring it here? Isn’t this a scam?” he wailed.

The shop owner rolled up his sleeves and walked out.

“Ah, you want to play tough here! Get lost, or I’ll skin you alive,” he threatened.

The surrounding crowd quickly gathered, blocking the road completely.

Chen Yu was also caught in the throng of people, unable to move, and could only stand there and watch.

At that moment, the antique shop owner came out wielding an iron rod, looking menacing and ferocious.
