290 Novel Rejections (2/2)
Promising herself that she will obey everything she says with the exception of the conversation they had. She got out of the room to face the actual demon who must be waiting to suck her soul.
Sitting still in the living room which most certainly was occupied by her a while ago, he let his eyes wander. The screen was playing a gory scene of a psycho man slaughtering people, his eyes trailed to the coffee table where several novels and books of action/mystery/horror genre were kept. Their markings, highlights, and folded papers screamed they were read over and over again but their paper texture indicated they were still new.
He really didn't need to guess where all her 'unique' ideas this evening came from. He felt like a headache approaching as he scrolled through the collection of her watched movies.
She came in the living room sheepishly and sat on the other end of the loveseat. Her eyes trailed to all the things he had been going through and she winced.
All in all, she must look like a crack case right now. She cleared her throat and mumbled under her breath, ”I have been 'exploring ' different genres for my new novel So…” She trailed off.
The awkwardness was calling dibs on everything that was inhabitable in the house, to have a breather, she stood up, ”I… I will go to make coffee.”
”I thought you ran out of coffee.” With his brow raised, he was mocking her.
She was halfway through standing but sat back down, ”Ye… Yeah! I forgot.”
Taking a deep breath she turned to him, ”So why were you here again, I thought you were too high and mighty for little old me?” Although her question was toned inquisitively she made no effort to disguise the sarcasm.
He stared at her innocent face set in a scowl for a fleeting while, then sighed and shook his head. He wanted to first ask her about the lift incident but here was hardly a way to remark anything regarding the subject without sounding like a stalker. In her current 'exploration' he didn't want her mind to jog on the information. GOD knows where she will reach...
And just when she hardly believed he wasn't a 'demon' or 'psycho imitator' wasn't the time to talk about his obsession with her whereabouts.
”I missed you.” He uttered after a short lapse of silence.
Her resolve slipped for a second before she shrugged nonchalantly in almost boredom, ”Clearly you didn't, if you did, you would have picked a call or two. And you shouldn't as it was clearly you who shut me out of your life.”
He sighed before inching closer to her so there was hardly two feet distance between them, he ran his hands in his hair, ”I was enraged and confused. The… rejection was a novel experience. I didn't know how to deal with it but I am guilty.”
She felt like lunging her arms around him and sobbing with her every tear trickling down with forgiveness but it will be like gutting every single one of feminists in the world!
So she snorted and rolled her eyes in an attitude, and retorted heatedly. She sassed him sarcastically imitating his voice, ”Well, Now I am enraged and confused. The apologies are new for me. I don't know how to deal with forgiveness!” her voice ended in a high-pitched mock.
It was her first time misbehaving and she wanted to pat her shoulder for the good job she was doing!
Yu Youhan's eyes flickered with a bit of surprise, a pleasant surprise. Her standing up for herself was such a growing aspect he couldn't help but his eyes softened and he barely contained himself from bursting out laughing, ”I am sorry. Can we go back to how it was?”
Lu Xinyi shook her head with a frown, ”It is too easy to say, isn't it? After you ignore me for weeks, you come by one evening, 'Hey! Lu Xinyi, I am sorry because now there is nobody to tell me the cool jokes, you can.' which is the truth for the record, and everything falls back like how it was?!”
”It's like you are the only person in this friendship! If you want to keep in contact, we will. And when you feel like I am bored today of her so let's ditch her for weeks!”
”Lu Xinyi, I was upset. I didn't mean…” Lu Xinyi raised a hand to stop him.
