Chapter 219: The Sunnyside Murders (2/2)

Kurt and Vitae look around, lost before the police officers all begin to chant in perfect sync. ”Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Depression, Acceptance, Salvation.” The kept repeating the same stages over and over.

Returning the light to her hand, the officers went back to their jobs as the two CEOs were left dumbfounded. ”Oh my…”

”It appears our worse fears have come true,” Vitae stated. Pulling Kurt aside, she whispered. ”I believe this proves we are almost out of time. Is our ace in the hole ready yet?” Kurt stared on, not responding. ”Kurt. Phantom!”

”Yes… He's almost ready.”

”If we are to survive this coming war, we'll need our own stage of grief to even the odds.”

A mixture of laughter ignited from the table as Zephyr squad sat around eating and drinking their problems away. Lily stabbed at her food, giggling away, nudging up to Rapunzel. Gogh sat idly sipping on his drink through a straw sketching. ”What are you drawing there, Kenny?”

Gogh groaned, dropping the book. ”Nothing since you won't leave me alone.”

”Why are you always like this?”

Gogh shrugged his shoulders, frowning. ”I don't care. I think I'll give up drawing.”

”Didn't you give up on playing the guitar last week?”

”And cooking the week before.”

”I suppose.”

Lily began bouncing a ball whistling. ”You don't care much about anything, do you?”

”I don't care.”

Alton slowly walked over, sitting next to Gogh, holding a cup of noodles. ”Cascade! Where have you been?”

”I've been busy,” Alton stated, not touching his food staring at the table. ”What were you talking about?”

”Nothing really,” Rapunzel started pointing her fork at Alton. ”I must ask why did you let Jinx live? Our mission was to kill her.”

”Does it matter?” He responded, moving the cup around his handshaking. ”I just didn't.”

”You don't make much sense, Cascade,” Lily grumbled, prodding Alton with her spoon. ”But you did save us, so I'll let it go.”

Alton chuckled, shaking his head. ”That sounds just like you, Zinnia.”

The three looked at each other confused, as Rapunzel cleared the air. ”Who's Zinnia?”

Alton flinched, knocking his cup noodles over, standing up going pale. His hands began to freeze over before gagging, holding his stomach. ”I- I just…”

The alarm ran as everyone looked up with a displeased look. ”Break time is over already?”

Alton took serval deep breaths as serval guards walked into the canteen armed. ”Zephyr squad to your cells at once.”

Alton glared at the guards without much of a response walking out escorted out. Cuffed, he walked past seeing Jinx; both glanced at each other as Alton looked backbiting his lip. The guard assigned to him seemed in a hurry as he was thrown into his cell. Sitting down, Alton took serval deep breaths holding his head. ”Why can't you just forget about them… Team Rhapsody is dead.”

”You're right.” Alton's head rose, seeing the guard leaning against the bars staring Alton down. ”You've accepted that truth, now haven't you?”

With his eyes fully widen, Alton stood up, stepping back in horror. ”That voice, that's not possible.”

”Isn't it? Tell me, Child of the Garden, what do you see as impossible these days? You've become sloppy, and we're knocking on your front door, Alton Brantley. It's been a while, hasn't it, though? Last time we met was back on the island. I did warn you next time I won't show any mercy.”

”Acceptance…”

Acceptance grinned, twisting his head to his side, mocking Alton. ”Now, shall I show you a terrible truth?”
