Chapter 19: Strange Fishes (1/2)

Rushing back home, Lin Xiao clicked his tongue when he realized that it was getting dark. He reached his home and sensed the two people's movement inside the house. His younger brother was tending on the few potted plants that they placed near the window while Wenren Yu was resting near the fire place.
”Yun, I'm home!”
”Brother, you're late.” Lin Yun turned around to look at his brother then to the basket behind Lin Xiao. ”Did you manage to join the hunting squad.”
”No, that bastard Su Han makes it impossible to join,” Lin Xiao said with clear annoyance. He proceeded to tell the other two what had happened while he cleaned three fishes for their dinner tonight. The rest of the fishes were left inside the basket that Lin Yun filled with water to keep the fish fresh.
After hearing what had happened, Lin Yun was speechless. ”He's still searching for trouble?”
”As usual.” Lin Xiao played with his knife and cut the fish's skin carefully. ”Should I just scream to his ear that I cared nothing for that pampered Xu Qin?”
Lin Yun obviously knew who Xu Qin was. Even though he had been spending most of his time to stay in this residence and tend to the plants while training, he had been to the villages a few times a year. Xu Qin was the most beautiful young girl in the village.
”Bro, I think she's not bad.”
”Do you want me to skin you alive?”
”Ah. It's that bad?”
”She's indeed pretty.” Lin Xiao used the stick to roast the fishes near the fire. ”But she's too spoiled. Even I have standard when I want to pick girls.”
Lin Yun laughed at his brother's words. While Xu Qin's personality might not be a match for his brother, Xu Qin was still a very pretty young girl and also a capable cultivator. Amongst the youngsters, it was clear that she was one of the few who had the best talent.
In the past, there was no doubt that Xu Qin would surely enter Taiyi Sect with her talent. But now, it didn't seem to be possible anymore.
”Yes, yes, my brother can get better girls.”
”Of course!”
Wenren Yu rolled his eyes at these two's conversation. He looked at the fishes that Lin Xiao caught. While the light was dim, he still could see the fishes clearly. The pattern on top of the fishes was what caught his attention.
”Lin Xiao, where did you get the fishes?”
”Where? From the large lake at the north,” Lin Xiao replied calmly. ”There are a lot of fishes there, but normally we don't dare to go because there are a lot of beasts around.”
”But you still go?”
”If it means I can join, why not? Besides, I didn't see any beasts when I head to that lake before.” Lin Xiao proceeded to tell about his experience and everything that occurred while he was going. The forest was very quiet with no trace of beast at all.
