Chapter 160: The Banshee Leader (1/2)
A Banshee, a variant species of phantoms.
Banshees were the most popular type of incorporeal netherans in Weeping Town.
They were, however, different from zombies, in the sense that they couldn't be spawned sporadically.
A Banshee could only be birth when a lifeform is killed by another and fulfills certain conditions. Jake had no idea what the condition was, but he knew a few of them.
A Banshee had to be a female, there were only a few male banshees.
A Banshee had to had died with immense grief, hence while they were synonymous with tears.
A Banshee had to have been filled with negative emotions before becoming one!
There were mainly other theorized conditions, but these were the ones that were certified. For instance, Jake knew that the location was important for a banshee's birth, but he didn't quite understand how it factored into the equation.
However, one thing he knew was he should never listen to the cries of banshees.
They carried a certain sound that could kill. Just listening to it numerous kilometers away could still affect them!
Yet, here he was, listening to one!
.............
*Aaha~aha~aha!*
The song went on!
As he continued to listen to it, Jake found out how truly horrible the cry of a banshee was. It dug into his mind, turning his body inside out, feasted on his brain.
It was practically a hell song!
Perhaps, he was the only one that experienced this occurrence. The others weren't in deep in it as him.
Jake could sense every note of the cry. They told the tale of a tragic woman, a woman who lost something…...something Jake wasn't interested in.
However, Jake, being the one with superior senses, was made to listen!
Blood flowed out of his ears, eyes, nose, and every other orifices as the cry reached its peak.
His bones turned soft as if they were made of cotton. His energy went rampant, sympathizing with the tragic cry of the banshee.
'A banshee...a wom--creature made with tremendous sorrow,' sighed Jake.
It was such a creature that brought him down to his knees. His sharp senses had doomed him. It made him remember the time when he had tried to peer into the very nature of Cheyenne….
”Haha--” Jake tried to smile but he just ended up coughing blood.
However, he wasn't planning on giving up.
Crawling on the rough ground, Jake removed his hands from his ear and focused on the source of the horrendous scream.
True enough, it was a banshee! He hadn't doubted that.
Beside the banshee was the wraith Jake had faced, comfortably listening to the song. The ghost and shadow that fought with the group were also there.
Gradually, other phantoms, ghosts, banshees, and shadows gathered around them.
As he saw this, he knew that this was not a battle he could win.
Jake ignored the massive amount of blood he was losing and focused on the group.
