196 Ambrosia Cartel: Part 3 (1/2)
If one thought about it, they would have known that Patrick had ventured so far from what he was and so did Lynn. Patrick used to be an ordinary gamer, and he became a special force now while Lynn used to be a person that believed in justice, but she gave up that thoughts long time ago and became a cold-blooded contractor like she was now.
A person could change, and so did the road they would walk through. At this point, both of them could be rioters and rebels in their country due to the fact that school had closed down. They became a contractor felt like a good destiny as of now since both of them didn't like the idea of fighting for an unknown cause in their old country.
Patrick spotted a booby trap as he walked. It was a wire being tied to one of the trees. If not for the keen eyesight that his bionic eye provided, he could have triggered the trap and put the trap into action. The trap was connected to a hand grenade which safety pin was tied to that wire. The wire was thin. The grenade wouldn't pose much of a threat, but he was more afraid of vietnam-ish trap in the middle of a jungle like that.
Only God would know whether there was bamboo pit or anything like that inside of that forest. Both of them could resist bullets, but Patrick still had his doubt on whether he could survive a stab right in the chest. He was still a human after all. A human who had survived being shot by two anti-tank recoilless rifle and being collapsed alongside the building.
Lynn on the other hand, survived a rebar on the head which went through her eye and pierced to the other side of her head. She also had survived after being used as a lab monkey for the Trinity project albeit with her losing the other eye and the color of her hair. Still, both of them were a strong human that would survive all if not most of the engagements with the enemies.
Patrick cut that wire with a plier and continued walking deeper into the jungle. Lynn told him to stay put. She rose his hand. She then aimed his rifle and fired a burst of three bullets at a direction. Then a meowing faint could be heard from afar. Patrick looked at the scope of his battle rifle. That was an animal. A dangerous one in fact. That was a jaguar.
The dead carcass of the enemy could be seen in the scope. The dead skin that used to be the shell of the renowned Jaguar now just would rot in that forest. It showed that they had walked far enough from the civilization that they had found an animal like Jaguar. Well, at least it wasn't a snake, there was a reason why Patrick brought an AA-12 with HE rounds on his back. He was afraid of snake and he feared for a big snake like an Anaconda inside of that forest.
His heartbeat sensor showed nothing, but they remained vigilant. It could be another animal, or worse, a cartel. They wouldn't want to approach it either way. Those voice sources and their intention must keep minding their own business only. The animal/cartel would live to see another day and so did they.
The sun went lower and lower as they walked deeper into the jungle. The jungle had turned almost dark. They might need to use their night vision goggles soon or they would be blinded due to the fact that the night would come soon. Lynn sighed. They had been walking non-stop for hours.
They wanted a rest, but staying still was as equal as being a target for the animals and the cartels. They kept walking although their feet almost had given up. Well, not really, it was just an idiomatic impression made by Lynn when he encountered one of the victims of the cartel's action.
The body smelled bad and had been filled with many different detritivors. You could find flies, maggots, and worms in that dead body. The clothing had been torn apart and the body has turned black due to the amount of time it had been left there. There wasn't any sign of the body had been eaten by any carnivorous animal. That was a good sign for them.
The moon showed bit by bit and the lights went out little by little. The jungle would eventually become so dark that it would be almost impossible to see anything inside of that jungle. So Patrick grabbed a night vision goggles from his backpack. He replaced the bonnie hat with a combat helm that had been covered with camouflage cover.
It should offer a better versatility than the bonnie hat since the helmet was more modular than the hat. Lynn also replaced the hat with her helmet. The helmet was as green as the camouflage itself. The NVG was mixed with thermals. The result was night vision goggles that would highlight any living creature which was very advantageous.
