Chapter 39 (1/2)

Above the pond, on the apex of the adjacent cliff, within the clouds, a gigantic bird nest sat on a rather flat stone platform.

Two furry young birds whose figures resembled ostriches surrounded the huge corpse of an exotic beast that was like a rhinoceros-cow, happily tearing pieces of flesh off the corpse with their beaks and swallowing them.

To the side of the stone platform, a huge bird about two meters tall when standing upright, with a body covered by ink-black fur was looking down reservedly with its round eyes at the two young birds, admiring the young fledglings.

Suddenly, the ink-black beast seemed to sense something, as a light shone in its eyes. It suddenly raised its head and looked towards the cliff behind it.

In the next moment, the ink-black beast pushed off against the ground with its talons and spread its wings, lifting itself into the air. After circling around at lightning speed for a bit, it dove straight down the cliff.

The height of several hundred meters was covered by the ink-black beast in just a few breaths’ time. Its huge body flew down steadily, disturbing the morning fog behind it and swirling it behind it.

Just as it was about to reach the skies directly above the pond, the mysterious energy that attracted it suddenly disappeared, as if it was never there to begin with.

A hint of suspicion flashed in the inky black beast’s eyes, its rapidly descending body suddenly changed direction and flew over the pond, its body nearly touching the water surface. Following that, it beat its wings violently and rose up through the clouds once more.

In the moment the huge bird flew past, a strong wind was generated above the pond, causing abrupt waves on the calm water surface. Water splashed in all directions, drenching the Wind Shadow Wolf and Fiery Scorpion guarding at the edge of the pond.

After being drenched in water, the two subdued beasts that were trembling from the pressure emitted by the black beast nearly fell down on the ground in submission.

That was the soul suppression of a higher being towards a lower being. The two subdued beasts couldn’t resist it at all.

Fortunately, the ink-black flier didn’t care about these two ant-like existences. Otherwise, they would have been crushed by it easily.

Not long after the huge black beast left, the water surface slowly returned to its originally calm state.

Suddenly, a human figure surfaced from the water, his complexion a little greenish-purple from holding his breath, gasping for air heavily.

Fresh air entered his lungs. Zhang Che quickly recovered from his near-death encounter, the fear he felt apparent on his face.

“What the heck, what level and quality is that exotic beast? It was so strong! Even though we were separated by the water, that enormous pressure could almost suffocate me; how horrifying!”

As he rejoiced, Zhang Che crawled up on the shore using both his arms and legs, feeling weak all over. He couldn’t help but lie face up on the grass, his chest rising and falling rapidly.

After some time, Zhang Che felt himself recovering, and no longer dared to stay around any longer. He quickly put his clothes back on and packed his bag, recalled the two subdued beasts back into his spiritual sea, and quickly headed down the stream.

If he didn’t leave this cursed place quickly, who knew if that terrifying bird would come flying down again?

If that bird suddenly wished to know what human meat tasted like, then he would have to lay down his life here!

Zhang Che ran a couple kilometers in one go, before stopping in place to pant heavily. He looked back fearfully; the cliffs on both sides of the valley were now hidden behind a layer of fog.

-It should be safe, now that I ran so far away, right?-

He saw a big tree ahead of him a short distance away. Zhang Che couldn’t help but dragged his tired self over to the tree and sit down, leaning back against it.

What a coincidence, indeed; this tree was exactly where Zhang Che had hunted the Myriad Transformation Lizard yesterday!
