Chapter 557 - Ill buy you a new one to replace it (1/2)
Jeremy rubbed her back in order to calm her down. Then, he handed the key to her.
”Why don't you try it?” he asked. He was trying to give her some space and by being in the car, no one could hear what they would talk about.
He took the seat beside her as she started the engine. He smiled at everyone who was still watching them with a beaming smile.
”If you don't like it, I'll buy you a new one. The exact brand and colour,” he said.
She sighed as she pulled the safety belt, ”They will feel hurt. Your mother. Your grandmother...”
”Grandmother would not know once she leaves. Mother... I will explain to her,” he reassured her. Nothing was wrong with the modification but if only they asked for Ryn's permission first then they would not face this kind of awkwardness and headache.
”Don't worry about me. I need a day to chew over this. Tomorrow... I believe tomorrow I can accept all this,” she replied slowly. What else could she do but to suck it up and just accept whatever just happened to her beloved car? They meant well and they did all these for her safety. She understood that but to be present like this without any warning, her heart was still unable to accept it.
For now, all she needed was time.
He patted her hand again before he got up and urged the helpers to get back to their work. He then went to his family and told them she was trying all the new functions in the car. Mr Long, once he heard that, suggested for his mother and wife to rest in the house.
”Will she leave now?” Mrs Long asked. She was hoping for Ryn to stay for a while so they could chat. She was still trying to get used to her daughter having become someone else's wife and daughter-in-law and was hoping dear Ryn could make her feel better.
Jeremy knocked on the window of the driver's side and Ryn automatically lowered the window.
”Are you leaving now or will stay for lunch?” he asked. Behind him, Mrs Long was giving her puppy-eyed look.
”I'll stay,” she said with a sigh. She knew the kitchen was busy preparing lunch and even included her share in it. And by staying for lunch, it would show that there was no hurt feeling between them. She, of course, would not show any unhappiness with them. Yes, she would show her feeling to Jeremy and that was that. But, in front of the others, she would rather put on the mask she always has and let them think she was happy.
He helped her while she was getting out of the car. He watched as she looked at her car with a small frown and then nodded toward the house. ”Let's go.”
The elder couple and the Dowager already walked into the mansion once they confirmed that she would stay. The Dowager asked for a glass of water, feeling thirsty after standing so long. A maid quickly fanned her to help cool her down despite the air-conditioner blasting all around the mansion.
”You've worked hard,” he whispered right before they entered the building.
”What do you mean?” she asked with a frown. He suddenly praised her when she did nothing at all today.
”For be patient with them,” he explained, ”I knew you're hurt with the way they're handling this. Thank you.”
”It's nothing. As I said, by tomorrow I won't think much about this,” she whispered back.
He rubbed her back as encouragement before leading her to the others. They again took their seat on the couch while waiting for lunch to be prepared. The maid already brought a tray of cold drinks and some cookies for them to snack on while chatting.
This time around, Jeremy made sure Ryn was sitting beside him in the duo seats. He did not want his mother to conquer her all the time. He did not want to miss any chance to spend time with her because once he was on the road if she refused to follow, he would not be able to see her for quite some time.
