Her father is an earl too, and you’re at least on an equal footing with him now. Don’t be afraid of him!”

Wood was stunned for a moment. He had never thought about that before.

He remained silent for a long time. Then he grinned bitterly and shook his head.

“Come on, it’s better to let those things that happened more than a decade ago leave us forever.
