18 Episode 17 Combat and Armor (1/2)

Now, I've been teased by a strange thing (Metal Lizard).

The other side is faster, but the difference in speed is not that great. For the time being, I ran away in a different direction from the city to buy some time and think about what to do. I took off all my gear to increase my speed.

What did Mr. Dverag say? I'm pretty sure it's hard to beat a wizard in a town like this where there aren't many strong wizards.

I think I can get around that by using as much magic as most wizards. And I'm big, hard, heavy, and strong, so swords won't penetrate and shields won't do any good. So, if there's a wizard, how do we defeat it? You didn't say. I barely even know how a normal wizard uses magic.

So what to do?

Option one, run. The city would be badly damaged, there's no wizard strong enough to run away, and if we survive, we could be killed for dragging this thing into town. Rejected.

Option two, possessions. Nothing that could be of use. Rejected.

Option three, fight, that's it.

Now, how are we going to fight it? Fortunately, it doesn't have much HP, so its armor probably isn't that tough. Even a rock spear for Gargon would be enough to kill it. However, it would be difficult to do so because it is said to be a swordsman killer.

Now, what is the advantage of a wizard over a swordsman? Probably, there are some reasons why a wizard can manage it.

First, distance. They can attack from a certain distance and are less likely to be attacked.

Then there are special attacks and attacks with high power. I don't know about the rest of you, but at least fire and water are the privilege of wizards.

You have recovered almost all of your MP so far, and the recovery is quite large. You can also use recovery spells, so there is a good chance that you can recover from a non-fatal attack.

It's better to try different things. If other wizards can do it, I should be able to do it in some way.

If you need 1000 wizards, it's impossible, but I don't think it's that much for B rank.

The Metal Lizard looks like a huge, silvery, stocky lizard with a tough frontal armor, but the back armor looks smooth and flat. It was about 2.5 meters tall and 10 meters long.

If it were a tank, its frontal armor would be thicker, but Mr. Dveragh didn't say which part of its armor was thicker, and since we couldn't see anything other than the front, I'd like to believe that its frontal armor wasn't particularly thick.

The first step is to take out only your staff while running, and generate a rock spear while continuing to run away. It seems that it is impossible to use a swordsman's sword, but how about a rock spear with a lot of MP?

You run for about a minute, putting in 10 magic power per second. The distance that seemed to be about 150m at first has shrunk to about 100m. The spear of rock that had absorbed about 600 magic power became 2.1 meters long and 50 cm thick.

It flew at a speed of about 100km/h. Both I and the metal lizard are running as fast as a car on a public road, but the lizard is a little faster, so the relative speed may be higher. It doesn't seem to have anything to do with its power, though.

The rock spear landed soon after it was fired.

But the spear shattered, and the metal lizard didn't flinch or slow down. No luck.

Fire magic is next. There's a chance that the lower armor is weaker, so I'm going to bet on that and fire slightly lower this time. And it might tip over off balance.

I run for another minute or so, recharging my fireball. The distance between you and the rock spear is about 40 meters.

There is no change in appearance, but the radius of the explosion will probably be 10 times larger. The explosion is about seven meters in diameter. There's no point in getting caught in the explosion by charging any further, so I quickly release it.

The fireball hits the lizard in the lower jaw and explodes.

You turn around while running in the same direction as before. I couldn't see what was going on behind me because of the smoke.

”Gyoaaaaaaaaaaa......

The roar of the Metal Lizard echoed in the battlefield as the forest ended and the battle moved to the grassland.

...... You did it!

The next thing you know, a lizard jumps out of the smoke. I don't feel like it's working at all. The distance was only about 30 meters, and I had used up all my moves.

I thought it might be possible, so I sprayed it with water, but it still had no effect. The water-soaked armor was glistening in the sunlight.

Then it could be a magic I don't know about. There was a way.

Since ancient times, in Japan, the strongest attribute of metal is electricity. If it's electric, it might be able to pierce the lizard regardless of its armor.

And since there is no more distance between us, we change direction and try to escape further. Change direction to the right and avoid the rush.

You succeed. It seems that the lizard is not very good at changing direction, so it makes a U-turn and comes towards me.

I use the spell as if electricity is going towards the lizard.

I didn't feel like my MP was being used up.

I remembered that I couldn't use the ice spear when I tried to use it in the past.

While I was thinking about this, the lizard caught up with me again. Once again, this time I tried to avoid it by turning to the left, but unfortunately the hem of my clothes got caught in the lizard's left leg.

I was blown off at once and crashed into a tree and stopped. Thanks to my status, I don't think I'm fatally injured, but I feel like my ribs and arms are broken.

Use recovery magic to heal them both. It took about five seconds, but I was cured.

However, thanks to the time loss, the lizard had finished changing direction and was chasing me again.

In a panic, I change my direction to face the lizard rather than perpendicular to it, and distance myself from it again.

But my attacks are not getting through. I'm running out of time. I haven't used up that much MP, and my body doesn't seem to tire easily, but my mind does.

If I move too slowly due to mental fatigue, I may get run over. No matter how powerful my recovery spell is, it can't cure instant death.

I have to come up with a way for the attack to work. Do you have any ideas?

I've got one simple idea. I'm going to stall for a while, and then I'm going to put a giant rock spear through the armor. It's also called ”Goryoshi”.
