” How come there are no servants inside the house? I mean it's pretty big to be managed alone ”
” What is about to be said in this meeting is to be kept secret, all the servants are to stay out until you leave by command of Lord father ” Krista said with a serious tone, the three soldiers were surprised but if what they read in the reports yesterday is true, then it is a good decision to keep this a secret
” I see...” Said Erwin, The journey to the duke's study came to an end when they reached the big door
Krista knocked in the door three times, a strong and powerful voice came from the inside
” Come in ”
Krista pushed the door and gestured for them to go in as she closed the door behind them and left
Roger was sitting on his chair with a few candles to light up the dark room, he had always preferred to work in a dark and quiet room
He saw that Erwin and his companions are still standing at the door ” Make your self comfortable ” he pointed at the nearby coach, Even if Erwin is a commander of the survey corps, Roger is still technically his superior
” Many thanks, ”Doing as he said, they sat down and waited for Roger to finish his work. The only sound that was in the room is the sound of paper being flipped and his pen scratching on the papers
After nearly half an hour, Roger put his pen down and sighed, he stood up and lighted more candles around the room to lighten the room. The previously dark room that you can barely see anything in it now completely clear
” Thank you for going with me and my son's selfish demands, Commander Erwin ” Roger sat down in front of Erwin and his companions with a gentle smile
” Nothing big Duke braveheart, but more importantly, I came to see what your son is going to say. As you've said last week, you believe that your son is humanity's only hope? ”
” Yes, indeed. But before you meet my son, you have to promise me something first” Roger previous smile turned to a seriousexpression that won't accept 'No' for an answer
” And what is this promise you speakers of?” Said Levi, he knew that there must be a catch to all of this, if it's true then the Duke must want something in return for his son's information and how he was able to survive for two years in the titan's territory
” No big deal, all you have to do is keep everything a secret and give my son a good rank in the survey corps alongside a few conditions that he will set in exchange of his ”Powers” ” Roger said this as if it was no big deal as he said, giving someone who was never in contact with any kind of military activity a ” Good rank” as he said will bring chaos in their ranks much less, they will attract attention from the police and the king
Erwin was in deep thoughts, he was thinking about if this information and meeting worth the sacrifice or not while Hange was straightforward as she said
” With all due respect, what you're asking is a bit too much, we can do everything except giving the military rank, we will meet a huge deal of opposition from the other captains.”
”It may create a rift between our ranks ” added Levi
Roger anticipated this reply and said ” I am not asking for a captain rank or anything, just a small rank that won't make my son a servant of these military officers. ” Roger looked at Erwin who was in deep thoughts ” You can do that can't you? Commander Erwin
Erwin looked at Roger and sighed ” Everything will depend on what your son has to say, all he needs to do is give us a good reason to make this decision worth as for keeping this meeting a secret, you can count in us ”
” I ask no more than that ” Roger smiled at Erwin, he stood up and went to the bookshelves at the back of the room, he pulled a certain Red book and the whole bookshelf opened like a hidden door, revealing a rood outside of the room leading to the forest. Hangesnap out at what she said and went to bombarded Roger with passion and questions about how it works but she was pulled back by Levi who chopped her in the head
” My son is at the end of this rood ” Roger gestured for them to go ” When you come back, bring Ace with you, he knows how to open this door ”he closed the hidden door behind them leaving Erwin, Levi, and Hange who was still stuck on the wall trying how to figure how it works
