But there was someone that greatly slowed him down, Yun Canghai. He became some sort of rival to him.
Every time they fought, Xuan Yi would be defeated, but Yun Canghai would be too weak to finish him off at that point, so he just left him there to recover before Yun Canghai turned back, full of energy.
They clashed for 7 months, in combat, both of them knew each other like their own pockets.
But in those 7 months, he also absorbed more life force and profound qi until he reached the 8th Sovereign Profound Realm, on par with Yun Canghai.
In their last fight, he didn't expected that Yun Canghai would use his own Blood Essence to trap him inside a formation, but he still used this chance to absorb the energy around him.

”...The formation is destroyed.”

Yun Canghai flew at south, where he sealed Xuan Yi.
Soon he reached the place, just to be greeted from a giant crater with Xuan Yi in the middle.
”I was waiting for you, Yun Canghai… Now die.”
Xuan Yi extended one arm and shot a black arrow at Yun Canghai.
The latter blocked it with his Heaven's Punishment sword, but the force of the impact was too great and sent him a couple of kilometers away.
