Chapter 67 - Darling, There’s Nothing to Explain (1/2)

”I did marry you for money, but that was so I can save my brother not to leech on you,” Luna corrected him. She didn't think she had choices back then, but she would rather be trapped on Hero's deal than to accept Sienna Jiang's help.

”That inheritance… it is yours. Are you really that soft-hearted, Luna? Didn't you realize that all of these happened because you were too kind and easy to be fooled? Say, have the thought crossed on your mind that even if you give up your rights and inheritance from the Jiang family, how sure are you that they wouldn't come back for more?” Her husband bombarded her with questions.

Luna fell back on her seat, feeling her strength leaving her body. However, Hero rose to his feet, hooked his arm under her knees, and lifted her up. She was startled by his sudden action but nevertheless wrapped her arms around his neck.

Burying her face on his shoulder, she smelled his clean scent that somehow calmed her.

Indeed. Hero's questions never crossed to her. What's the ȧssurance that her half-siblings would leave her and Julian alone? If she wasn't such a weakling back then, she would've revealed Sienna's lies when the latter stole her work.

Luna hated that she was easily fooled by Aiko and Sienna. Aiko had managed to fool her and seduced her own boyfriend right under her nose while Sienna not only stole her work and the glory that was supposed to be hers but also harmed Julian because of her weakness.

At that moment, she hated herself more than anyone else, and yet her heart was telling her to forgive them and move on with her life. She didn't want a complicated life filled with revenge and schemes. She only wanted to live her life in peace with her baby and new family.

”To be honest, I don't care anymore if I lose my inheritance just as long as I'll be ȧssured that I wouldn't lose any of my loved ones because of it. I rather lose it than my brother,” Luna admitted to her husband.

Lowering her head, she was ashamed of how weak she was in front of him. Her eyes welled up, hands curled on her ŀȧp.

”Am I not allowed to be happy? I only wished to lead a happy life with no remorse or so whatever. What kind of crime did I commit for my life to end this way?” she cried out, but Hero didn't say anything, letting her cry her heart out. She must have been holding this from everyone for a long time.

With her sickly mother, a useless father, and a brother who's been in an accident; Luna's troubled heart must be enduring all these pain alone.

Whatever she had right now, it was all because of this man. When Jasper left with Aiko, she was kicked out of her own apartment due to unsettled bills. Now, she and Fluffy didn't need to worry about where they'd stay.

This private villa owned by her husband was more than enough for her. This small villa couldn't be considered small at all as it was complete with two floors with several rooms, a front and a back garden she truly enjoyed with Little Amber and Fluffy, a swimming pool, and—surprisingly—a greenhouse where Hero spent most of his free time.

However, if it was compared to the Jiang Mansion where Sienna and her other half-siblings live, Hero's villa was indeed small.

Because Hero Li disliked having too many people crowding around him, their home was being maintained by Madam Lin and her grandson. Two maids were responsible for the indoor cleaning while leaving the outdoor to a gardener.

Hero combed his wife's hair with his hand, hoping that it would soothe her somehow. Right now, he only wanted her to learn to rely on him and ask for his ȧssistance. Luna only needed to say a word, and he would comply with her wishes.

”Stop your tears. No more crying, Luna,” Hero wiped her tears from her face, and she stared back at him bewildered from his actions once again.

”Why are you so good to me?” she asked without thinking.

Hero froze midway and stared at her tear-stained face.

”I'm afraid I also don't know the answer to that question,” he admitted.

Luna halted her tears before slowly lifting her head to look at Hero. She could see a small smile plastered on his face. It was faint but still noticeable. She even caught a complex emotion glint on his eyes. Even she wasn't able to comprehend what it was. The only thing she was sure of was it was all directed to her.

Could it be that this man was in love with her?

She gently shook her head. No, it couldn't be. Luna Jiang wasn't someone who believed in 'Love at First Sight'; she must be overthinking again.

Luna sniffed and wiped her tears dry. She couldn't believe she had a breakdown in front of her husband. She turned her face away, hiding her embarrassment.

Seeing her like this, Hero let out a low chuckle.
