Chapter 30 - The Pillar of Flame (1/2)
Solskin
I stared out my window at the cone of black fire into the sky. It looked like the sky was split in two. I wasn't the only one. The street outside had gone quiet, heads tilted upwards, staring at the black pillar. Ignoring my own shock, I rushed out and into the hall. My bȧrė feet pounding against the ground, I stopped in front of Xavier's door. I raised my fist and took in a deep breath, ready to raise hell. But I stopped. I couldn't do it. I didn't want to see him again. The door opened in front of me.
Xavier stood before me, his armor still on. ”What do you want?”
I let my hand fall to my side. ”Did you see it?”
”Be specific.”
”The massive pillar of black flame into the sky. Did you see it?”
”Yes.”
”Let's get Persephone and go.”
Xavier stared blankly at me. I reached out, grabbing his wrist and dragged him along. Reaching the door, I screamed at the top of my lungs and pounded on the door. The door slammed open, her eyes bloodshot and wide.
”What?” There was a edge of fear in her voice.
”The massive pillar of fire in the sky. Let's go.”
I turned and continued to drag Xavier outside. Persephone wordlessly followed. Sprinting towards the dissipating flames, we pushed through crowded venues and winding streets. Finally, out of breath, we arrived at the front of the mage guild. Right outside their door was a circle of black flames. Clustered around it were mages, dressed in colorful robes and hats. They were whispering amongst themselves.
I tried to listen in, but all of the words few right over my head. I looked at Persephone and Xavier, but they were also struggling to understand the conversation. Xavier's brows were furrowed and Persephone had a dumb look on her face. I sighed. If Mordred was here, he would know what to do.
