Chapter 151 - Unexpected (1/2)
I wished so hard I could escape this room quickly. The nervous sweat in my forehead is ruining completely my perfectly done hair.
'Can't he stop looking at me?'
The man was looking at me so intensely. His gaze was making me feel more uncomfortable at every second. Was he trying to dig a hole in my head?
'Why are you looking at me like that? It is not like I wished to be here either. I didn't want this to happen and certainly not this fast. The old man tricked me into this, and I had no way to withdraw.'
The man in front of me was the son of the Hill family, famous for its military career, but instead, he chose to walk away from them to start his now-famous tech company, and… he is my grandfather's godson. Ethan Hill, that was the name of the man glaring at me.
'Sighs… please stop.'
He has two other siblings, well, stepbrothers, the eldest was a man with proud and cold eyes.
'I always felt the air freeze when he was around.'
He was married to a lady from a good family, with a good academic background, good looks, good demeanor, and other ”good” features, good enough to fit into the Hill family. They surely were made for each other. The woman was like a plastic mannequin. Always smiling with the same poker expression.
The other sibling was a spoiled girl, the same age as Camila.
The only polite compliment for that spoiled girl was on her good looks because she was a totally disgusting person, the cliché kind of person that used her family power to intimidate ordinary people.
'Tsk such an awful girl.'
His mother raised him until he was seven years old, but she was diagnosed with a serious illness and she died from it. However, before she left the world, she sent him to his father's family. The Hill family. Terrible mistake.
They took him in but harassed him in every possible way. Making the little seven-year-old lad live a terrible hell.
However, a miracle happened. While the little battered boy was walking on the road looking terrible from a beating, my grandpa found him. He sent him to the hospital and investigate the reason for his beatings.
Later my caring grandpa took him in as his godson. From then on, Ethan started living in the old mansion with grandpa. His family didn't dare to say anything because of the old man's powerful background and their need to maintain their reputation.
I often saw him when my parents took me to visit the old man's house when I was younger.
I think I remember the scene.
”Camila, this is Ethan.”
The young little boy looked at the cute girl dressed in a pink baby doll dress.
”Hi.”
Yes, that's how the first meeting happened. It should have been a beautiful encounter, but he ran away. I couldn't understand.
From then on we never got along. I had the impression that he was looking at me with angry eyes. Every time I met him, he frowned his cute little brows as if I did something unforgivable to him.
He seemed like a sweet, cute, and shy boy, but then became hostile towards me and I don't get it.
Anyway, we are in this situation.
Grandpa was set on the idea of making him my husband and then let him be the new owner of his wealth and the great Lynch company.
My parents, thank God, are indifferent to the old man's decision because they have their own career and business to take care of. We were never a greedy family. Should I say grandma was the one to blame for that?
My older brother has his medical career and was not in the mind of inheriting an old business, and I am simply not cut out for anything related to financial spreadsheets and managing things, although grandpa made me study the business inside out. I just wanted to enjoy a simple job and a carefree life, a lazy life.
'This guy looks terrible. I think he is going to punch me in the face if I'm left alone in this room with him.'
The old man decided of announcing my engagement to Ethan tonight at his birthday banquet without telling my parents, my brother, and, of course, me.
I removed myself from the situation. I was trying to hypnotize myself that this was not happening, but then my name came out from the microphone and the lights flashed on me. I could only nod and smile to escape the anxiousness. Only when the voices began to reach my ears and after two seconds, my slow, lazy brain captured the meaning behind those words.
