Chapter 115 - Emergency Mission! (1/2)
In an alley filled with trash and dump, a young man – looked to be the 20s' – with different bruises and wounds on the body was lying on the ground.
He had long silver hair that, due to dust and trash, had lost its natural ŀuster. Many people passed by him, yet none came close to him. Probably because he looked like a beggar from the outsides' perspective.
MEOW
A cat licked the cheek of the young man when, suddenly, his eyes shot open; red slit eyes stared at the cat, ŀɨċkɨnġ him.
Even with his weak and wounded body, if one were to gaze into the young man's eyes, they would feel palpitation inside their heart and soul – a primal fear ingrained in their souls.
COUGH COUGH
Once the silent alley was now filled with the hoarse voice of the young man. With enough difficulty, the silver-haired man adjusted his sitting position – using the wall as a rest.
MEOW
If not for the fact that the young man had no recollection of having a cat, he would have thought that it was his pet.
Seeing the cat purring at him, a small smile forms on the young man's face.
”Come here, little guy.” Others would have thought that this man was an idiot, trying to call a stray cat as if she would understand him.
But, strangely, the cat seems to understand the man as it happily goes towards him and sat on his ŀȧp.
Gently ċȧrėssing its fur, the young man sighed.
”This is the second time I am using the world travel through the system, and it does not seem to unamused me by my unnatural appearance…”
The young man, Wang Lei, spoke as if talking to the cat.
”Meow?” The cat seems to not understand what he was saying, explaining by a tilt of its head.
Wang Lei smiled seeing the cute act of the cat and started to question Yue.
'So? What is the reason for my current situation?' the dragon asked his System AI.
'…As I have told Master before, your background is chosen completely randomly. I nor system has any involvement in it. As for why you are in this position, please wait for the memories of 'you from this world' to merge with yours.' His AI, Yue, replied.
Wang Lei sighed. His red slit eyes staring at the cat.
A couple of moments later, unknown memories start to surface in his mind. No, it was the memories of 'him' from this world before he took over the body, or to be more precise, the lock on his memories unlocked.
After the first travel, Wang Lei found out that although he chooses the age at which he wants to transfer into the world – it does not mean that system transfers him at that age.
Instead, it would reincarnate him into that world and place seals on his body and soul. And when the age hits the target set by the host, it would unlock the seals, resulting in feeling like he was just transferred.
Well, not that he cared anyway. As long as he did not reincarnate as a child – completely not in the mood to go through childhood again.
After sorting out the memories, a grin forms on his face as if amused by what he learned.
'Mah~, you really went all the way this time huh, Yue-chan.'
'Master…it's not I who creates your background…'
'Hehehe~, Yah, yah, I know.' Wang Lei said as if implying something.
'…' Yue did not reply and just silently watched over her master.
”This will be fun, don't you think, Kuro?” Wang Lei, smilingly, said to the cat, while curiously looking at her tail that, unlike normal cats, was divided into two.
”Meow?” Kuro tilted her head to the side as if inquiring about her name.
”Hm? Are you perhaps wondering about your name? Well, since you are black, then you will be Kuro. You should be proud that the first name that came to my mind was Kuro and not Yue…” Wang Lei said, later part towards himself.
Kuro purred and nested more into his ŀȧp. Seems like she took a liking to Wang Lei or to his smell.
It was no surprise as he was a Primordial Entity. Even if currently he had none of his bloodline and physiques – as it would take some time to ȧssimilate them with his body – most animals would still distinguish his smell from others.
”Since Kuro is the first person or cat that I have met in this world, then you will be my partner from now on.” Tenderly ċȧrėssing the fur of the cat, Wang Lei said with an unknown smile.
Kuro, seeing his smile, tilted her head. But how could she tell what this above half-century dragon was thinking?
(AN: That's right! Wang Lei has reached the half-century mark – 25 in his first life, 35 (from which, 10 years in time dilation during his physique training) in second life. Sigh* how he become such a big man…makes me feel old now.)
”Eto~.” Moving from his place, Wang Lei stood with Kuro still in his hands. Looking at himself, he could not help but wrinkle his nose; he smells shit.
”I should take a bath. At least this me had some money on him.” Wang Lei said, taking a purse out of his back pocket.
Checking the amount, he sighed since it was enough for him to have a nice long bath. He still could not use any of his strength as it was still merging with his soul and body.
He did not have to go through this process in his first world travel, but this time he was a millionth time stronger than that time; obviously, it would take time for his bloodline, physiques, and powers to merge with this body and soul.
(AN: To make something clear, the seal, that is, put on him when he is reincarnated into a new world is, in fact, seals his powers, bloodline, and physique inside the system. So, you can think of it like this: His real body would be saved inside the system, and when the age he specified reaches, the system will start to merge his real body with 'the reincarnated body'.)
”Well, shall we go then?” Asking Kuro, whose reply he did not receive as she seems to be sleeping, Wang Lei came out of the dark alley.
The first thing he saw was the bustling street with different vendors and shops – a complete contrast with the trash littered dark alley from where he came.
Wang Lei had no idea at which timeline he had entered this world, and since he never completed the whole anime of it, he was pretty much clueless except for the beginning story.
After asking about the public bath from a random passerby, Wang Lei started to walk in its direction. People would give him sidelong glances from time to time due to his tattered appearance. But Wang Lei seems to be unfazed by all this; he never cared about his appearance, to begin with. For him, it was just a bag of flesh that he could always alter.
