43 Brother, The Candied Gourd Is Dirty…” (1/2)

Li He had been having a great time lately.

Apart from his Awakening, what was more important was the news his dad had managed to get. The municipal party committee of Shencheng wanted to open a training class for Awakeners, to gather everyone together and educate them on their ideology.

Li He thought that such events were truly necessary. He enjoyed acting arrogant compared to rising in ranks to fight. After all, everyone only had one life, and nobody would think that they were living for too long, right?

Especially after receiving the good news that day, all the pharmacies in the market stocked up on the performance-enhancing drug for Awakeners that had been developed by the bigger companies in the medical industry. The drugs were said to have a great influence on increasing an Awakener's score by about 0.03%.

Wow. How could they miss out on such good stuff?

Li He had immediately asked his family for 50 thousand dollars and had come out to get the drugs. Then he had seen Hong Xiaofu—it had played psychological tricks on him.

Was that why they said that enemies often crossed paths?

Regardless, Li He still decided to go forward and greet Hong Xiaofu, since they had shared a meal.

”What's up. Are you eating candied gourd?” Li He giggled as he walked over. He looked at Hong Xiaofu, then looked at Shen Xiaoling and said, ”Out for a walk?”

”Brother Li He.” Shen Xiaoling took a glance at Hong Xiaofu before she turned to look at Li He. She looked at the candied gourd that she was holding and hesitated for a moment. She still decided to give one of it to Li He and she said, ”Brother Li He, my brother says that I should share treats with others, I'll give one to you!”

”Huh?” Li He was dumbfounded for a while as he accepted the candied gourd instinctively and asked, ”There are three of us here though. What are you going to eat if you give this to me?”

”I…” Shen Xiaoling looked at the candied gourd that Li He was holding and secretly gulped. She quickly let out a big smile and said, ”I'm a girl, I can't eat a lot. I can break this into two and share it with my brother.”

She turned her head and looked at Hong Xiaofu happily and said, ”Am I right, brother?”

”Yup, you can have it first, I can't eat a lot either.” Hong Xiaofu smiled as he handed his to Shen Xiaoling. Usually, the top of the candied gourd was the largest part.

”Thank you brother.” Shen Xiaoling took it and licked it excitedly.

Li He didn't know what kind of situation the siblings were in, so he did not think much about it. Since they had offered it to him, he took it and wanted to put it into his mouth at once.

However, just as he was about to eat it, someone behind him shouted, ”A thief!”

Then Li He felt someone knock into his arm fiercely. He lost his grip of the candied gourd and it fell onto the ground!

Hong Xiaofu was stunned. So was Li He.

Shen Xiaoling was initially shocked. Then she stared at the candied gourd on the floor blankly, feeling extremely wronged. She pursed her lips and said, with teary eyes, ”Brother, the candied gourd is dirty…”

A stick that cost five dollars may mean nothing to others. They would just forget about it if it got dirty. That, however, was not the case for Shen Xiaoling. In order to buy a stick of candied gourd, she had to pick fifty bottles. Even so, she was willing to share something she valued so greatly with others, choosing not to keep everything for herself—even though that person was not even a close friend. She still believed that people took time to become good friends, and that no one was born close; she was well aware that she had to be kind to others, so that they would accept it and return her the favor. She had a simple mindset—in all honesty, it may have been the best one, too.

After Hong Xiaofu recovered from his daze, he immediately shouted, ”You thief, don't run!”

Li He had a slightly different reaction from Hong Xiaofu. Someone had knocked into him? They couldn't just run and get away with it.

Regardless of how they thought, they shared the same feeling as they shouted, ”Don't run!”

They started chasing the thief. Hong Xiaofu shouted as he ran, ”Xiaoling, don't wander off. Wait for me to be back!”
