After 10 minutes of climbing the stairs, they finally saw the gates of the temple.
”Let's bow towards the gate.” Yu Qi said.
They bowed towards the gate to show respect.
”You seem to know about this a lot.” Long Hui commented.
”After visiting the shrine during our vacation last time, I have done some research about the shrine. That is why I know about this.” Yu Qi explained.
Yu Qi saw a water foundation.
'Master, can I drink this?' Aoi asked.
”No. You can't drink it.” Yu Qi stopped Aoi from drinking the water. ”This water is not for drinking. It is for cleaning purposes.”
Yu Qi grabbed the ladle. ”First, you need to wash your left hand, then move to clean right hand. After that rinse out your mouth. But be careful not to let the water that you used fall back into the foundation.”
She showed Long Hui how to do it. She then gave the ladle to Long Hui. Long Hui took the ladle and did the same as Yu Qi did before.
”What's next?” Long Hui asked.
”Next is making an offering.”
Yu Qi walked, approaching the main worship hall. There was a big box in front of the hall. Yu Qi took out a few coins and put them into the box. Before she put the coins in, she bowed first. Without saying anything, Long Hui followed Yu Qi. He bowed and tossed a few coins into the box.
”It is time to pray.” Yu Qi said. ”First, bow twice in the direction of the altar. Then, pull the rope to ring it now and bow twice again, slightly deeper. After that, clap your hands twice to get the attention of the gods. Finally, clasp your hands in prayer and finish with a final bow. ”
Yu Qi did what she was telling Long Hui just now. She prayed that everything that she experienced up until now was not a dream. She also prayed the people whom she cared for would be safe and happy.
Even though Long Hui was a little bit sceptical about this, he just followed Yu Qi. He hoped that his beloved Qi Qi would be happy until the end.
They walked to the side of the shrine. They found a stall that sold ema. Ema was a wooden votive plaque for sharing your dreams for the future in the hopes that the gods would help their dream come true.
”Let's write our wishes and hang them there.”
They bought two ema. Yu Qi wrote for a safe and happy life. As for Long Hui, he did not hide his wish too. His wish was to marry his beloved Qi Qi as soon as possible. Yu Qi blushed as she saw the wish. Long Hui only grinned when he had caught Yu Qi looking at his wish.
They went to hang the 'ema at the allowed place. There were others emas hanging at the place. Probably about a thousand of them, who knew...
”What happens if this place doesn't have any empty space to hang the ema?” Long Hui asked.
”The ema would be burnt in the sacred fire in the shrine. That way, the dreams and wishes of the people are carried up to the gods along with the smoke.” Yu Qi answered.
