Chapter 22 (1/2)
Chapter 22: Underground Casino
Hughes walked aimlessly on the street.
He wasn’t used to not having the talkative Audrey next to him.
“Sigh, Asuro should be able to protect her.”
Yet, little did he know the two women have already schemed to trick into the anti-magic research institute after he passed the Hiro Royal Academy exams.
As he walked, he heard some desperate screams behind him.
It was a man’s voice that he was very familiar with but Hughes couldn’t remember who the person was on the spot.
He turned around and saw a man popping out of the corner of the street covered in sweat.
“Hughes, I’ve been calling you for so long. Why did you ignore me?”
The person was called Sean Consak. He was one year older than Hughes and was Hughes’ playmate since young.
Ever since returning to Duke Tulip’s residence, Hughes had either been cultivating or playing with Audrey.
He didn’t have time to see his previous friends at all.
Hughes felt joy from the bottom of his heart after encountering Sean Consak here.
Three years ago, Hughes who was still the national prodigy had countless friends and henchmen.
When his talent suddenly disappeared, all these friends disappeared like smoke into the air.
The only exception was this Sean.
“Ah, I was thinking about something and didn’t notice someone calling me from behind.”
Sean waved his hand and panted “We’re brothers, don’t sweat it. I’ve come for you for an emergency, are you free? Come with me.”
Although his breath was unsteady, Sean’s expression was still extremely serious.
“Lately, the news of you signing up for Hiro Royal Academy exams have been getting pretty heated. The underground casino bosses felt this was a good opportunity to earn money.”
“Just two hours ago, these people joined up to open a bet. I wanted to earn some through this so I came to find you today.”
Sean genuinely expressed his idea. He didn’t mind Hughes understanding what he truly thought at all.
Hughes had this helpless expression.
His friend was like this since a young age. He didn’t like studying magic, he just loved money.
Since young, Sean was either earning money or on the way to earning money. He would go wherever there was money. His instinct for money was more accurate than detection magic.
“Okay tell me, what do you want me to do.”
Hughes looked helplessly at Sean. He wanted to listen to Sean’s idea first. If it’s too absurd, he wouldn’t be able to help.
“Don’t worry, it’s nothing hard.”
Sean who had acute business sense easily read what Hughes thought from his expression.
“This bet is different to the previous ones.”
“In order to earn more money from you, those bastards from the underground casinos set up many bets.”
Sean’s face became serious upon speaking of money.
“Hiro Empire Royal Academy exam has four subjects. Based on the characteristic of each subject, they set up a different bet. The odds are different for each one, some…” Seeing that Sean was about to ramble on non stop, Hughes got a headache.
