Chapter 242: True nature of Derik Angus (1/2)

The next morning, Derik and Lucien set out early. They only camped because no matter strong Lucien may seem, he was still mortal and needed to eat and sleep, unlike Derik whose body is dead. He is no different from a walking corpse.

The powering wind beasts Derik sensed were gone so they flew this time around covering even more ground than usual. This time where they are heading was farther than Lucien had expected! They were heading towards the edge of the continent, and that journey alone took about a month even with their terrifying mobility. During that month, they fought no battles and just moved in the day while camping at night.

During this time Derik and Lucien shared stories of their past with each other and slowly grew more fond of the other. Both of them had experienced a lot in the past and maybe this was what attracted them to each other. While Derik started from a poor background, Lucien had a rich background but both of them had something in common. They were both betrayed by the people they called family and ended up forming strong bonds with friends who proved to be more loyal than their parents and siblings.

Derik explained how he forgave his family but could never bring himself to spend time with them after the event. Apparently, even though he forgave them, he still never bring himself to stay in the same home with them. Lucien understood Derik since his parents were still alive and he even got to know that he has a little brother now, but even then he has never had the guts to meet them again.

”You have a little brother? Dummy! He doesn't have anything to do with this!” Derik rebuked.

”Do you ever regret not spending more time with them?” Lucien asked Derik, leaving him momentarily stunned by the question.

”Yes... I wish I could take it all back but, now is not the time for that!” Derik said with a gloomy look on his face.

Days passed and weeks ran by and they spoke more frequently and after a month they finally reached the edge of the continent. It was like a massive cliff with an endless sea just ahead of it. Gazing at it, Derik and Lucien couldn't help but remember the looming danger traversing the endless sea just to get to them.

”I guess that's what we are looking for” Lucien said as he saw an ancient stone gate with strange ruins visible on it.

”This should lead us to the place” Derik walked, inspecting the old gate. His eyes seemed calm but his body was a bit shaky due to excitement.

”This is not a nest!” Lucien said with an annoyed look on his face but Derik ignored him and continued inspecting the ancient gate for a while.

”I guess this is it... I need your blood” Derik said after a while causing Lucien to frown.
