Two weeks before the end of the semester, Christmas decorations begin in the castle. Professors decorate their classrooms. The prefects of each college supervise the decoration of the castle. They watch the freshmen and sophomores who stay indoors because of the cold between classes. They also patrol the corridor with filch in shifts, because filch suspects that fighting may increase during the festival.
At the same time, during this period, teachers of various courses will assign Holiday Assignments. In some rare courses, there may be a semester summary.
