Chapter 187 (1/2)
The car slowly drove into a small alley. In places like Brooklyn, there are many people in a hurry on the street, and some children are playing ball throwing on the road.
Around the floor is not high, full of classical charm, those old style windows, witnessed too many changes in the city.
The street was a bit damp. It seemed that it had rained yesterday. Steve, breathing the familiar air, followed Carter out of the car.
They walked into a street store called Brooklyn antiques. There were vases and lamps in the shop window. They were really dusty, but they were not antiques. Steve was not sure.
Several men in hats looked at the newspaper at the door of the shop, looking like a street bum. But they looked up at Carter, and their eyes moved away, indicating that they were also agents.
Carter and Steve directly opened the door of the shop. There were no guests. In the dim light, only an old woman was watching the shop. A lot of old clocks hung all over the surrounding walls.
She had white hair, but she was hale and hearty, with a kind smile on her face, and she tidied up her pink sweater to greet the guests with a standard British opening.
”It's a nice morning, isn't it?”
Carter whispered, ”yes, but I always go out with an umbrella.”
The old lady laughed, reached under the counter, felt her old hand over a Chicago typewriter and pressed a hidden button nearby.
Then there was no communication between the three. Peggy took Steve to lift the curtain and went to the inner room. After a row of bookshelves opened, a secret corridor appeared.
Countless soldiers with military police signs were on duty inside, and many doctors and nurses in white coats walked around in a hurry.
Steve followed Peggy curiously, behind the door at the end of the corridor, a huge laboratory.
A huge equipment, like an iron coffin, was placed in the middle of the site, just below the entrance platform. Around it was a circle of tall instruments that could not be understood at all. There were various instruments and openings that could spit out notes.
Steve saw that Dr. Erskine was looking down at him. Not far away, he also found an acquaintance, Howard stark, with a moustache but rarely serious expression. He was busy debugging the equipment and did not find Steve's arrival.
Steve looked at agent Carter around him, while Peggy sighed. This experiment has unknown risks. The biggest problem is whether Steve can persist in great pain.
She turned her head, a little impatient, but she was also a soldier and had to follow orders.
Peggy took Steve down the stairs. Steve's eyes had been on the huge equipment in the middle of the field. Fortunately, it was just like a coffin when viewed from above. After walking down, it looked like an Indian canoe.
It's just that it's made of metal, and there's a lot of spiral bulbs inside.
”Good morning.” Dr. Erskine shook hands with Steve solemnly. However, there was a flash light nearby. It was the military reporter who recorded the scene, but he was not very happy: ”not now. Please don't rush to take pictures.”
Peggy quickly tidied up her hair. She didn't know if she was still staring at Steve's back when she was photographing. If it was recorded, I would be very sorry...
the doctor looked at Steve again. The little man didn't match the cold steel room around him at all, and his face was still in a state of bewilderment.
”Are you ready?”
Steve took another look at the machine, and it bloomed like a flower next to it, revealing the inner compartment that could hold an adult man. It was obviously for him.
