Chapter 185 (1/2)
In the next few days, Steve received hellish training here. In fact, the training on others was just recruit training, such as running, learning to crawl and so on, but it was a little too intense for him.
His heart disease and asthma make him feel the pain of bursting in front of his chest every time.
But he still insisted that he wanted to go to war anyway, and it was the only chance that was hard won. So even if he is the last one in any project, he still won't give up.
At first, his teammates might have looked down on him, because he was a sick boy, and joining the army seemed like a joke.
But a few days later, all but Hodge were impressed by his perseverance. No matter how his body was, the soul contained in it was undoubtedly strong enough.
Americans in this era are also influenced by many simple ideas. They will respect anyone who is worthy of respect.
And in training, Steve showed great wisdom.
When the instructor led them to a flagpole dozens of miles away from the Caspian camp, he told them that no one had been able to take the flag off for 30 years. If anyone could take the flag off the top of the flagpole, the journey back would not have to run, but would be able to ride back to the camp with agent Carter.
There are cars to save energy, and there are beautiful instructors like Carter in the car. Others swarm to the flagpole and climb up like monkeys.
Steve watched for a while. After the helpless crowd dispersed, he pulled out the bolt under the flagpole. The flagpole fell down. He easily picked up the flag on the ground and handed it to the instructor.
”Thank you, sir.”
Then he climbed into Carter's jeep, which showed his firm will and wisdom, which made Carter look at him differently. Obviously, he was about to run out of breath. He could still think calmly. And after doing what others can't do, he is not arrogant and impetuous.
This is a very valuable character.
Su Ming didn't meet with them these days. He came to the barracks once in a while. He just took a look from a distance. Now, the deadline of a week is coming, and he is getting closer and closer to the appearance of the American captain.
At dusk on the seventh day, Philip and Dr. Erskine were standing on the playground talking about the recruits. They needed to decide on the final candidate.
”Why, doctor, how did you choose Steve? He's too small. ”
Colonel Philip reluctantly complained to Dr. Erskine that it was not easy for Steve to hold on this week, but his words and deeds did not look like a soldier at all.
Dr. Erskine turned to look at the crowd in the sunset. He tilted his head and asked, ”who do you think you're looking for?”
”That's what Hodge looks like.” Philip's sense of Hodge is not bad, although the guy is a thorn, but the more prickly in the army, the more capable he is.
The army is going to the battlefield, not to the parade.
Dr Erskine shook his head. ”Hodge is a bull. I need a good man.”
”But he has courage. It takes courage to go to war.” Captain Philippe took a grenade from his weapon box, pulled out the pull ring and threw it at the recruits. The green ball jumped into the crowd. Then he yelled, ”grenade!”
When the recruits were scattered, everyone began to look for shelter, but only Steve, hurled himself on the grenade, hoping to protect his comrades with his body.
”Get out of my way, stay away from me!”
Agent Carter looked at him with appreciative eyes. Although he was small, his courage was better than anyone else.
She has green eyes for Steve. Although this man is small and thin, his soul is very big. She firmly supports the doctor's view that Steve is the right person.
The grenade did not explode. It was a fake mine for training throwing.
But the Colonel thought that Hodge, the most courageous man, hid the farthest. It took him a long time to look up and crack the Colonel's face.
