He drew her body closer and kept his voice to the minimum volume when he asked, ”Are you hurt anywhere? Did they injure you?”

Zheng Mian lowered her head. She didn't want to meet his eyes. She shook her head.

Seeing her cowering her body, lower her head and crying pitifully, it wrenched his heart. He was having a hard time breathing properly.

He gently put her head on his chest and stroked her head. ”It's all right,” he assured her. ”I'm here. You have nothing to fear now. I'll protect you. You can cry as much as you want.”
