Chapter 9 - WANTED TO MARRY (1/2)

Luo Jingyi couldn't help cursing the vehicle which was making a turn at the curb. She swore if she'd seen who the driver was, she's going to smack the face.

”Good afternoon Dr. Luo. Bad weather, isn't it?” The guard greeted as he handed the towel to her.

Jingyi took it and wiped the water stains on her face and hair.

”Morning Mr. Sun. Thanks for the towel.” Jingyi called him Mr. Sun because he wears this smile on his face. He always reminded her of her family's steward. Although they don't look the same they have this happy and sunny countenance which was very infectious.

”No problem Dr. Luo. Would you like coffee?”

”Sure. Give a cup to that man in that corner too, will you?” She pointed at the beggar who was taking shelter at the corner. The beggar appeared to be shivering.

”I can drive him away if you like.” The guard suggested.

”No, as long as he doesn't disrupt anyone, let him stay.”

Mr. Sun nodded. At the same time, wondered why everyone says Dr. Luo was wicked as a witch but she always takes time to talk to lowly people like him. Even the beggars were treated with respect.

.....

As soon as Jingyi arrived at her office, she changed her clothes and grabbed the hairdryer.

Ten minutes later, she came out and headed to the ICU to start her rounds. Dr. Lin joined her.

”How is patient LD85's hemoglobin and hematocrit levels?”Jingyi asked about a 52-year-old man who was brought in complaining of abdominal pain. The hospital uses 2 alphabets each day to label the patients. LD was the code 2 days ago and the old man was patient #85. Jingyi proposed this so that it would be easier to track patients. Things like, when did the patient arrive at the hospital, who were the doctors on duty and etc. At the same time, with the number of patients getting in and out of the emergency room, remembering all their names would be difficult.

”They are 7.6 g/dl and 22.1% respectively. According to his CT, there's a moderate amount of hemoperitoneum due to gastric artery rupture.” Dr. Lin reported as she matched her strides.

”Schedule him for angioembolization. Send Dr. He to observe and let her write a case report.”

Dr. Lin nodded.

”How's Yun Jian?”

”He's awake now.”

”Is he? That's a surprise.”

Dr. Lin was also astonished when the nurses informed her. Because it normally takes 12-24 hours before patients like him would wake up after surgery.

Luo Jingyi found Yun Jian's parents in the room. His father was sitting next to the bed, grasping the hand as if it was his lifeline while his mother was standing on the sides with crossed arms.

Jingyi ambled closer and put on a gentle smile on her face.

”I'm Dr. Luo. How do you feel?” Jingyi asked as she checked for discoloration and swelling on his leg. She lifted the blanket on him.

”In pain,” he said shyly. The teenager felt embarrassed because he felt exposed in front of the beautiful doctor.

”The pain is normal for now. Can you try to move your leg?” The teenager followed and noting his movements were normal, Jingyi reminded him to let the nurses know if he suddenly feels discomfort in his leg.

”Put him in low molecular weight heparin therapy. Continue monitoring him. If everything is normal, move him to the normal ward later.”

Dr. Lin made a note of the instructions.

”Doctor, thank you.” It was Yun Jian who tried to speak.

”Oh, you should thank your lucky stars.”

Suddenly, there was an upward arc on his face. It was a smile that can make any young maiden's heart somersault. ”Then doctor, thank you. Because you are my lucky star.”

Outside Dr. Lin observed closely Dr. Luo's expression. She thought the other doctor would be unhappy. Instead, Dr. Luo was smiling.

The senior resident heard her exclaim, ”He's still a kid but he knows how to flirt.”
