Chapter 299 - Do you believe in love at first sight? (1/2)
”Why are you afraid?” Rhys asked.
”I—um...” Lyn looked down, ”I'm just nervous.”
Rhys nodded, ”I won't judge you even if you're ugly. But from what I can see, you're very pretty, so let me have a look, okay?”
How can he tell from just seeing a bit of her face through the hood? She's a bit scared, how about if he doesn't like what he sees? Lyn knew that the servants in the main house all looked at her with a disgusted look. Is it because she isn't pretty like her sister?
”Your gorgeous,” the compliment that passed Rhys lips was unexpected. Lyn didn't hear it at first.
”I'm so sorry! I know I'm ugly, but...I hope we can still be friends...”
She knows that men, even young ones, value appearances...
”What are you talking about stupid? I just told you you're beautiful.”
Lyn looked at him confused, ”I'm pretty?”
”Geez, have you not taken a look at a mirror before. You're the prettiest girl in this Kingdom.”
Is she? Rhys brought his hand to her face and caressed her cheeks. ”I thought so before. But yeah, you're beautiful. Be more confident. You don't have to walk around with your head low, either.”
”Rhys...”
He slipped something onto her hair, ”I got this earlier, you can have it.”
Lyn looked at the nearby mirror and saw a gorgeous hairpin on her hair. ”Ah, I can't, this looks very expensive.” While she may be a member of the elite circle, Lyn didn't care to flaunt wealth, or rather she doesn't understand why people can spend so much money on things. Even when her situation changed - Lyn still didn't like using money.
She always kept her belongings moderate. That may be the reason why the servants who know of her existence treat her poorly. They think she is stupid acting vitreous despite having the status as a Princess.
”I'm giving it to you as a gift, accept it, or I'll lose face.”
”Oh,” Lyn nodded. ”Then I'll take it.” According to the teachings of the church, one must not refuse somebody earnestly giving them a gift.
She feels a bit happy; nobody's given her a gift like this before.
”Can you stay over?”
”Stay over?” Lyn said, puzzled.
”Overnight, it's almost dark,” Rhys pointed to the skies. Sure enough, the orange skies were rapidly fading. Stay?
”Um, I'll have to ask.”
”Yeah.”
Lyn quickly put her hood back on, but Rhys pulled it down, ”You look better this way, don't hide it.”
”But I...”
Rhys caressed her cheeks, ”Let me see it. Okay?”
She wonders why this person is so straightforward and direct. ”Say, Rhys, how old are you?”
”Me? How about you?”
”Ten.”
Rhys suddenly drew his hand back, ”Wait your ten? For real?”
Lyn looked at him, blankly, ”Of course I am.”
”Shoot,” Rhys cursed. ”What am I doing trying to break the dammed law?”
