Chapter 250 - Its because.. (2/2)
The last few days Lyn may be smiling. But Rhys knew her better by now. Lyn is only wearing a smile on her face. But it's only a farce. Whenever she is sleeping, she ends up crying.
Kazuya looks up, ”She is a bit strange.”
Hey hey, even if that's the case. She's become rather calm recently. But that's beside the point; he bends down. ”She's not. But if you just left her on her own, god knows what will happen. This incidence with you made me realize, that person leaving her must have hurt her inside,” Rhys trailed off. ”I should have helped you get away if I did things wouldn't be like this now. Kazuya, stop forcing yourself. You're not like that person or me. Don't overthink; just do what you feel like doing.”
Just do whatever you want, even if it is illogical even if there is no reasoning behind it. Just follow your heart. If he keeps this up any longer, he's going to die, 'Doesn't Kazuya have the faint scent of death on him?' Rhys really wished that person didn't give him such an omen. But now that he's heard it, he can hardly ignore the guy and pretend he doesn't know him anymore.
….
Where did Lyn get to? Before Kazuya leaves with the soldiers. He ought to make sure those two are reunited as soon as possible. Rhys thoughts broke off when he saw Lyn beside the giant oak tree. She was not alone, however. Rhys could not see the face of her companion.
”Lyn, I've meant to ask. But what do you think of Rhys?”
Rhys perked up at this.
”Weird...strange, yeah, definitely. ..” Lyn started, wait he didn't expect to hear this. Though she had called him weird on several occasions, this was kinda painful to hear. ”He's definitely strange. I didn't know about it before, but he really is a bad drunk, you don't know how many times I've had to carry him back home - oh and he's a pervert that's for sure. Though Fukami reassured me that he isn't trying to make a move on me, its difficult to tell sometimes.”
Hey hey now, he wasn't a pervert then. He was serious. Then again, it's true with the way he acted; it would be difficult to determine his feelings at all. ”But even though he's lazy at times, he does get the work done when he wants to. He's a good role model, and his previous experiences really do help the other squad members. When it comes to training others, he's really serious about it and sets up proper training drills and everything.
He seems to have an extraordinary taste in music - and though he's back here now, he still tends to wear regular clothing under his uniform. During the day when he gets bored with doing paperwork, he would walk over and say 'let's start your training instead.' Though there are times where he tries to get out of the work, never once does he try to skip or anything. When it comes to my training, he really does seem to be enthusiastic about it and seems to be enjoying himself at all.
Since the incidence, I have been copping and have been making improvements. However, I know that the reason I'm genuinely getting better,” she turned around and smiled, ”Its definitely because of Rhys that I'm okay now.”
His eyes went wide in shock; he wasn't expecting that.
”Its because Rhys has been supporting me all this time.”
”I see, you know what people say about you two, right?”
”Un I know. That were the leftovers that we are the ones that were abandoned. That we were the ones who got betrayed and couldn't see through his act, truth to be told a few months ago if I recalled that I would have probably broken down crying - I would have been sensitive to others words. But now though things are different. I'm stronger than I am before, and I have Rhys to thank for that.”
No one's ever asked him to do anything.
No one's ever asked him to reverse his scowl into a smile, to cut his hair before anyone else to show them they need to adapt, to always have a joke and a promise of revenge on his lips.
He does it anyway, and sometimes he can feel himself slowly crumbling under pressure, under the burden of what he thinks (he's sure) is his fault. It never shows.
And yet – yet it must show, because sometimes they are silent, and they smile, and it's the only thing he needs to stay sane.
What an idiot.
