Chapter 245 - Missing Knights (2/2)

”That's true,” Pupillam agreed. While Princess Lyn's family helped her family to rise to fame, she's always felt uncomfortable about her status. She feels like she doesn't deserve to be the Princess right hand. Her dislike of nobles is because of the treatment she witnessed when she was growing up. The nobles she saw in the town treated the townsfolk terribly.

”I see. Really though why her...she may be a princess, but she does not act like one at all. Rather sometimes I question her gender..”

Now now.. Though it's true, in the time, she does act feminine. But those times are when she is with those two.

Pupillam finds her lips curve into a smile, ” There's plenty of reasons for that. But there's the main one. She's the only one who isn't afraid.”

That's....how it was, huh. When her family was still regaining prestige, people would shun her. Not because he was weak or anything. In fact, it was the opposite reason because of this strength. Yet the Princess was never afraid of him. It's only natural that she became so attached. The Princess is the first one to accept her for who she was. The Princess didn't call her unusual or tell her it was better for her to be born as a man or anything.

Really, to all of them living on this side of this world they all have their own share of problems. Yet there's always been one thing that stands out, matters concerning love. As foolish as it sounds.

Pupillam stopped her horse, ”Sorry, Fukami, could you go on ahead of me?”

...

Pupillam wasn't sure. He only said it briefly, and she could be wrong. However, she wanted to check. Pupillam strangely knew where to go despite only knowing of the place earlier. The servants immediately led her inside, and Pupillam made her way towards the room from earlier. Lord Amakaze was still there, except she noticed something different. Bottles of liquor scattered across the ground.

”Your one of the Princess knights too?”

During her servitude, Pupillam seldom saw the Princess other knights. Every royal family member has a group of Knights. Despite the treatment towards Princess Lyn, even the Princess had her own group of Knights. However, they were under strict orders not to reveal themselves to her unless it was necessary. So hardly any of them came together.

Pupillam could remember a particular knight, however, that the Princess spoke about often.

”The knight who broke the rule and spoke to the Princess often?”

Amakaze smiled, ”That's correct.”

”So the reason you want to marry me is because of the Princess too?” It was starting to make sense to her.

”I figured that if I married you, it would be a legit excuse to get close to the Princess,” Amakaze picked up a cup of liquor from the table. ”I'm surprised you figured it out from our brief talk earlier. As expected of my future wife, you really do have brains and beauty.”

”Do not flatter me unnecessarily, you,” Pupillam paused, ”Should go see her.”

”I feel regretful; I couldn't do anything about what happened back then even though I was always by her side. That day, where was I? It wasn't just the incidence in the courtyard too, but that time where you were all attacked,” Amakaze gaze dimmed. Pupillam felt the atmosphere in the air go dimmer and dimmer. ”I was naive and couldn't do anything to help her. I was tricked into being sent away to another place. Why wasn't I more careful? I knew better than anyone that her sister wanted her dead for so long.”

Pupillam's eyes widened at this comment. Though she suspected it too, and other people did. Nobody actually confirmed it, the one who tried to kill Princess Lyn back then is Princess Lethia.

”I share your regrets,” Pupillam mumbled. ”I wasn't there in the courtyard, and the second case, all I could do was stand by. Somebody else protected the Princess, a kid - I was powerless.”

Amakaze said nothing but extended his hand out, ”If I can get you, then perhaps I could see her again. But, now that I have the chance. I still can't bring myself to do so.”
