Chapter 163 - Fear and Loneliness (2/2)
”To solve a mystery, you sometimes need to take risks. Isn't that right?”
That way of thinking… His sweatdropped, even if it is right. She shouldn't be taking such a risk. Lyn should not take such a heavy of a risk in the first place? Or rather that way of thinking is certainly like her. Even now it seems like she hasn't changed at all, huh?
”Are you still afraid?” Lyn asked.
”Isn't only natural to be?” Kazuya murmurs, repeating the girl's words attempting to gain an advantage, ”After all my strength is..”
He said that in hopes to gain an advantage over her. But as expected, one can't do that with this person, ”I see so you're afraid. That's good.”
Kazuya raised his eyebrows at this as the black-haired girl continued, ”Fear is proof that your imagination is functioning. Personally, I feel bad for anyone who can't feel fear. Without imagination, one can never take the next step.”
Someone who can't feel fear. Could she possibly be talking about her mother?
”And yourself?”
”I'm scared too, of course,” Lyn nodded, ”But over the years I have learned to hide my emotions. People end up disadvantaged when they show their emotions on their faces after all. Still,” she trailed off, ”The fear I feel, and the fear you feel differ completely from each other. You're afraid of what you might lose. But as for me? I'm afraid of the things I've already lost.”
Despite her remaining anonymous and not saying any names. Kazuya understood from the context of her words alone what she's trying to say. Ah, this person truly likes to contradict themselves.
But that's even more so the reason, ”You didn't give me an answer to that question I asked you that day,” Kazuya brushed his lips against her hair.
”Ah-huh, how to put it? It's not really about me, but you were talking about yourself, weren't you?”
”You know me too well,” Kazuya murmured as he squeezed her hands.
”If you feel lonely, sad, and depressed. Most people would search for a solution to get rid of that feeling as quickly as possible. It's the same thing for the two of us.”
Kazuya, however, gaze remained on the girl. Her eyes lit up brightly like fireworks. It was gorgeous. It wasn't a matter of lies or truth; he just felt that it was beautiful.
”You know Kazuya,” she whispered, ”I never thought about it before, whether or not I was lonely. I didn't even realize I was lonely; it wasn't until I met you did, I realize.”
Kazuya immediately understood what she meant then. How could he not? It's because he brought so much happiness and joy in her life because he taught her about the world beyond those walls. People sacrifice things all the time to obtain happiness, even if it is a small kind. It's the same this time around too with Lyn.
”Shouldn't you come up with a solution? You don't want the happy memories to turn into sad ones, do you?”
The loneliness…it was something he understood very well. ”I see it seems like you've figured out your own answer even before I lectured you,” Lyn said.
At that comment, Kazuya's eyes widened realizing, ah he told her just now also applied to himself. There was definitely something he could do. There was something he had to do to stand on equal ground. Really, it was something straightforward.
That's right, from the very beginning it was so very simple and yet he was the only one inventing excuses up. Inventing constant excuses so that he would be able to 'escape.' Even though the answer has been there from the very beginning.
”It's only natural that you didn't realize it. You've always been that kind of person after all. Back then, and even now,” Lyn whispered.
Kazuya's eyes went wide at that. It's almost as though she's saying she's always been watching over him. He shook his head at the thought, can't be. She only just recently started to recall things. But even so, this is progress, isn't it? In contrast to how things were between them at the start.
”Do you want to have dinner with me? And maybe we can take a stroll?” Kazuya suddenly asked.
It was a first for him asking her like this, and that may be why he felt nervous. Usually, when Lyn notices that he's nervous, she would end up getting fl.u.s.tered too.
But to his surprise, Lyn suddenly replied, ”I can't, I'll be with Allen.”
Kazuya's eyes twitched in annoyance, and he picked Lyn up, ”Wh? Kazuya? What are you doing?”
But Kazuya said nothing as he carried her away. It seems like he's the one acting too lenient. Even if they have to part one day, right now Lyn and him are still together.
Prince Allen is a problem, that guy genuinely likes her after all. When Lyn notices that, will she change her mind?
