Chapter 97 - 97: Death (1/2)

Lillie and Ethan watched in either fascination or disgust...or maybe both. Across the table was Death, loudly gulping down his tenth bowl of ramen as if he hasn't eaten for weeks, which was probably the case.

Lillie should've asked to be seated at a different table along with Ethan. People had been staring at them for almost an hour. Her hand covers her face in embarrassment.

She failed to remember that her Senior brother was such a glutton.

”Is this why you decided to open that pathetic store of yours?” Death ignored the blatant insult and nodded, raising his hand for another bowl at the waiter, whom stood at their side because he already knew that Death will order again after two minutes.

”If it's not obvious enough. I haven't had a proper meal for two weeks because I was short on cash. I would never expect that the money I brought with me was just enough to fly me to France.” He grumbled, remember the embarrassing scene back at the airport where he had to count a bag of coins just to have the cheapest ticket.

His flight was, by far, the worst he had ever experience. It was the first time he had to seat in the economy class, where people would give him strange glances every now and then. He sat beside a unhygienic man with a stinky feet, a woman in front of him had her hair sprawled behind her seat, and an annoying brat kicking his seat from behind.

Some kid even had the nerve to call him a handsome grandpa.

The kid was lucky because their was a word 'handsome' on her sentence. If not, he'll probably blow the plane in mere seconds.

”Because I was in a rush in...ahem..leaving, I haven't got the time to drag my piggy bank and smash it into smithereens.” A bowl was placed in front of him again and he began to devour the scrumptious noddles.

*Slurp* ”Plus...my allowance was cut off by half because of some petty reasons.”

”Let me guess, you beat a student until rendered comatose.” Lillie deadpanned.

Death slammed his hand with an angry expression. ”That bastard deserve it! Calling me underserving of being the number two?! Heck, he's right! I deserve the number one! You've already graduated, why the f*ck do still get to be number two?!” He complained, spits flew from his mouth. Good thing the table was long.

”My presence caused a great impact that it will be forever encrypted into every literature in the Academy and into students mind.” Lillie said, nonchalantly sipping her tea while Ethan nodded in agreement. There's not even an ounce of humbleness in her tone

”Of course, my rank won't be easily stolen.” She added.

Death froze for a moment before resuming eating. ”I guess you're right.” He said to himself. He was fighting a loosing battle if he choose to argue with Lillie.

A small smile made its way on Lillie's lips. She was eternally grateful to Death. If not for him, she would not be where she was today. No power, no titles, nothing.
