”Why is that?” Anna asked.

”I think it's because of your uncle James. I knew that someone is going on with him, but I decided to turn into a blind eye and not further investigate.” Other than her master, the Coleman family is the only family who made her feel at home.

However, after learning all the things that James is planning, she is starting to remember the horrible place she used to call 'home'. Back in that horrible home, their goal was no to kill her but to experiment on her. Despite their real intention towards her, Mary still felt that they were trying to kill her. And James made her feel like that.

”Brother and I should have told you,” Anna said this, but she knows that it's too late to regret the decision she and her brother made.

”It's alright, Anna. In honesty, I'm proud of the two of you.” Mary doesn't need to explain everything to Anna. All her daughter needs to know that no matter what kind of person they might become she will always be proud of them.

Earlier, before she went out here in the garden, she asked Leon where are her twins, and when she found out the twins were with her father-in-law and Martha, she suddenly got the feeling that the twins are going to take their next step towards their future with the Colemans.

”Anna, what did you think about your uncle James' punishment?”

Anna paused for a moment. She didn't know how should she answer that question. Should she be honest or not?

However, in the end, Anna chooses to be truthful to her mother, ”I don't think that uncle James should be pardoned of his crimes just like that. I mean, he planned to kill you, Mom! It's unforgivable! I just wished that Elder Martha should have suggested a better punishment for uncle James.”

There is one more thing that Anna didn't add, she also thinks that even if her uncle James did get kicked out of the family, that punishment is still not enough. Anna is not satisfied with that. She wants her uncle James to suffer more. But how can she request that to the other elders?

She is important to the Coleman family, however, she cannot take action of what she wanted to happen. The elders are the group of people she can't cross the line just yet. She needs a higher position to overpower them.

”I'm glad you feel that way.” Mary also thinks that James deserves a better punishment. She has the right to say something since her life is already on James' target list, but she let Martha take the lead. ”There is something you need to know about Martha, Anna,” Mary said in a serious tone.

”About her? Why?” Anna knows the basics stuff about Martha Cole, and she has no plan to get to know her deeper than that. But if her mother says that with seriousness in her tone, then Anna has no choice but to do a little more research about Martha Cole.

”Martha Cole is not exactly the person you think she is. She is strict and cold, however, she is also wicked just your grandfather. Maybe a bit more than your grandfather. She didn't pardon James' crimes just because of your grandfather's feelings. She has an ulterior motive.”

Mary and Martha only have a few interactions together, but even if it is only a few, she already knows what kind of person Martha is. Martha may old, but her mind is still strong and she knew exactly what she is doing. Everything that she does has a reason, and that sometimes scares Mary because she has no idea what is going on in her mind.

”An ulterior motive? What kind of a motive?”

”What kind? I have no idea.” Mary shrugged her shoulders. ”I'm telling you this because I don't you or your brother to feel like your work didn't show any good results because it did. Revealing James' scheme really angered Martha, and she hates traitors the most. I'm sure that sooner or later, James is going to beg that he should have gone to jail or should have died.”

Only a few people who knew that side of Martha and those few people are always careful in what they say around her. Even Martha's own family is careful around her. That's why most people like Marcus more than her because Marcus can be scary when he's angry but it's not the same when it comes to Martha.

'They are just two peas in a pod. No wonder they get along so well.' Mary inwardly said.
