908 Why Not! (1/2)
She raised her head to look at Gu Qingcheng, who towered over her, stubbornly refusing to say a word.
The accumulated rage in Gu Qingcheng's heart slowly turned into mania. Restraining his emotions that had no outlet to be vented, he frustratedly knelt down, boorishly ripping the butterfly bow on the cake's packaging and opening the box.
Yun Liuli's lips parted slightly. She wanted Gu Qingcheng to be careful and not ruin the cake, but it was like a walnut was stuck in her throat, making her unable to utter a sound.
The young lady had protected the cake well on the way there. The cake looked pretty, and the heart shape made by the cherry sauce in the center of the cream looked striking!
Gu Qingcheng tore apart the candles' packaging hastily and boorishly, snapping a few candles as he did. Those candles fell all over the floor as he tossed the packaging aside.
Seeing Gu Qingcheng harshly stick candles on the cake, not at all appreciating her effort, Yun Liuli felt terrible.
She lowered her head and picked up the candles Gu Qingcheng broke… holding them in her hands.
The sound of a lighter could be heard, and the candles that Gu Qingcheng had stuck on the cake were lit. His dark gaze was fixated on the candles as he said, ”My three birthday wishes. Number one… for Yun Liuli to live a long life and stay safe!”
Yun Liuli choked, feeling like tears were stagnated in her eyes.
”Number two, for Yun Liuli to date a boy close to her age!”
”Number three, for Yun Liuli to stay far away from me and get out of my life!”
The candles were then blown out, the small and shaking warm flames vanishing in an instant, taking away the last bit of color on Yun Liuli's face.
She clenched her teeth and lifted the cake from the coffee table, smashing it against the French windows. The entire cake got stuck on the French windows, then slid down a little before falling heavily in one swoop, ending up as a messy pile on the floor.
She tightened her fists and turned her head, her eyes looking stubborn as she shouted, ”This doesn't count! It's not your birthday yet! It doesn't matter what wish you make, it doesn't count, so it's not going to come true!”
”You can smash this one cake, but there are countless cakes! Even if it's not my birthday today, I have the entirety of tomorrow! It doesn't matter if those wishes won't come true, because so long as I wish for it, you won't see me again in this lifetime!”
”I don't want to listen! I don't want to listen!”
After screaming hysterically, Yun Liuli was afraid that Gu Qingcheng would say something she was unable to take again, so she left the suite crying.
As the door slammed heavily, Gu Qingcheng threw the lighter in his hand to the ground and kicked at the coffee table, restraining his emotions with much difficulty. He tugged at his tie and raised his phone to call his subordinate and have Yun Liuli escorted home safely.
After taking one last look at the smashed cake, Gu Qingcheng returned to his room and entered the bathroom, staying there for a long while.
…
At 12 sharp that night, Gu Qingcheng, who was leaning against the water bar and holding a square-shaped wine glass, walked to the French windows and knelt down on one knee. He shifted the platter underneath the cake away. The cream, cherry sauce, and cake were mixed together, the colors looking like a complete mess.
The black hair over Gu Qingcheng's eyes had yet to dry, so it blocked his vision a little.
Sweet foods were Yun Liuli's favorites. Gu Qingcheng had never liked sweet stuff. It was just that he was used to accompanying Yun Liuli to eat a little, so as time grew… his taste buds became accustomed to it.
He smeared a little with his finger and brought it to his lips. It tasted wonderful…
He lowered his gaze, the folds of his eyelids hiding the hint of gentleness in his dark eyes. He could even visualize the scene of the young lady jubilantly preparing the cake in the kitchen.
