26 THE TWO LOVERS (1/2)
After two or three smokes, Hua Zhendan retired to his bedroom. He had expected Xuan Tianyi to be asleep by the time he got there. To his surprise, the aforesaid was sitting on the bed, reading a book.
Without saying a word, he stepped into the bathroom. When he returned, Xuan Tianyi didn't speak to him. He settled into bed and turning away from Xuan Tianyi, prepared to sleep. This kind of drama was very familiar to him. And frankly, he didn't miss it one bit.

Hua Zhendan turned around and took Xuan Tianyi into his arms. He kissed his head, then his lips. As he pulled away, Xuan Tianyi pulled him closer and deepened the kiss.
Hua Zhendan moaned softly, then pushed Xuan Tianyi onto the bed. He straddled his boyfriend, leaned down as if to give him a kiss, then whispered in his ear, ”Good thing your body doesn't hurt as much anymore. I can do what I want with you and not feel bad.”

Despite the air conditioning in the room, two sweaty, naked bodies sat nestled in each other's arms on Hua Zhendan's bed.
”We should take our baths,” Hua Zhendan suggested.
Xuan Tianyi nodded in agreement, but neither of them made any move to get up.
”If we don't go now, the sweat will dry on our bodies. And that's so dirty,” Hua Zhendan persisted but made no move to stand up.
Again, Xuan Tianyi nodded in agreement but buried his head deeper in Hua Zhendan's chest.

Hua Zhendan tightened his hold on Xuan Tianyi then informed him, ”You're too hot for your own good.”
Xuan Tianyi gave a small embarrassed laugh.
Hua Zhendan smiled because he had found that he loved it when Xuan Tianyi laughed like that. He would ask if Xuan Tianyi had enjoyed the sex, but then, the other man's moans had being a clear indication that he had. At the risk of being redundant, he kept quiet.
”Baby,” Xuan Tianyi said.
Hua Zhendan smiled. ”It's not Zhendan anymore, it's now baby, Huh?”
Xuan Tianyi nodded in agreement.
”Since when?”
”Since now.”
Hua Zhendan laughed, then kissed his head for what might very well be the hundredth time. ”What's it?”
”I want to ask you a question.”
”What's it?”
”How... How many people have you been with before?” Xuan Tianyi asked.
Hua Zhendan was quiet for a moment, then replied with a question of his own. ”Do you mean, like sex-wise? Or relationship-wise?”
”Bo... Both.”
Hua Zhendan cleared his throat. ”You're my second boyfriend. And the third person I've had sex with.”
Xuan Tianyi laughed, then freed himself from Hua Zhendan's embrace so he could look into his eyes. ”That's not true.”
Hua Zhendan stared at him. ”Why? Is it so unbelievable?”
”Yeah. You're so handsome and… And—”
”Well-behaved,” Hua Zhendan raised himself.
Xuan Tianyi placed his head on Hua Zhendan's chest again. The latter wrapped his arms around him. ”Tell me about the other two guys.”
”Well,” Hua Zhendan started. ”The story of one is really the story of the other. And is also the story of why I don't get along with mum.”
Xuan Tianyi nodded enthusiastically, ”I wanna know.”
”Okay,” Hua Zhendan said. Then he started his tale. ”My ex, Qiu Dawei, was my first boyfriend. We met at Bulang University, and well, dated for the four years I was a student there?”
”Then, what happened?”
”After our final exams, there were a lot of emotions running around. His family lived in Singapore and he didn't want to go back home yet and frankly, I had no desire to be that far away from him. You know, without knowing when next we'd see. I had a business to run here in the city and knew I wouldn't be able to travel so leisurely.
”After a couple of talks and some backs and forth, he came home with me. To stay for a while. I was still living at my mum's.”
”Did your mum know about you guys?”
”No. Not initially. After a lot of pressure from Qiu Dawei though, I opened up to her. She laughed it off as a joke. Then one day, she walked into us about to get on with the nasty. Qiu Dawei was… Well, sucking me off.”
”Oh my God!” Xuan Tianyi said with a laugh.
”It's not even funny. I was embarrassed. But I was in my room, and she had come in without knocking. I believed she violated my privacy and was pretty pissed at her. Most especially since Qiu Dawei was too uncomfortable to continue.”

”I remember it vividly as it was the single most embarrassing moment of my life.”
”I can imagine,” Xuan Tianyi said. Still laughing.
”Qiu Dawei and I got into a big fight afterward. He wanted me to go after her. Talk to her. I refused. I already came out to her. I didn't see any need to do it all over again because she saw me in a precarious situation.
”She didn't speak to me about it either. Actually, for like two days, she didn't really say anything to me. And this was weird for everyone because outside Qiu Dawei, back then, she was the only friend I had. And I would talk to her about everything.
”Qiu Dawei thought it was crazy that I wouldn't speak to her, so he went to talk to her himself.
”When he returned, his eyes were red and swollen. Like he had been crying. And he told me he wanted to break up.
”I asked him why, and after a lot of pressure, he told me my mum had tried to pay him off so he'd break up with me and generally, just stay away from me.
”I begged him to stay but he said he was leaving. He didn't want to be the reason my relationship with my mother got ruined.
”He moved out of my house and into a small room in town.
”We talked on the phone and I went there to see him from time to time.
”When my mum saw I was depressed, she told me Qiu Dawei had accepted money to leave me alone. And that just broke my heart because I knew it wasn't true. Vexed at my mum, I moved out of her place, and into this apartment.
”He told me he wouldn't get back together until I moved back.”
Xuan Tianyi felt his heart tightened as Hua Zhendan's story progressed. Just how much did Hua Zhendan love that man?
”I held off on moving back because I felt he'd give in to me. We had dated for four years after all and I thought I knew him that well. We had sex a couple of times, but that was it.
”One day, I went to visit him, and some other man, a younger man, that was wearing nothing but a towel opened the door. Asking me who I wanted to see. Like that was his apartment.
”Well, I did the next best thing I could do then. Find comfort in a brothel. Then snapped pictures of myself and the man I had slept with to him.”

”I was young and stupid.”

”I felt really stupid though because Qiu Dawei didn't reply me. He just acted like he didn't see the pictures.
