Chapter 7 - Volume 1 (1/2)

Since it was already pretty late, after we got Luna to the City of Winds, I and Berzelia rented a room at the closest tavern and slept until morning.

Later, the two of us were having a late breakfast—

「Good morning, Axel-sama.」

「Do you mind if I intrude, Axel-san?」

Luna, who was holding a somewhat large pouch, came along with Fang.

Luna had a very lively look that wouldn’t allow one to guess about her groggy state when she just descended to the city a few hours ago. However, since she now was outside—

「Huh?　Are you two already done with negotiations?」

I heard that the talk started only 30 minutes ago, didn’t they finish too fast? And, as I was thinking such a thing—

「All thanks to your aid, Axel-san, our negotiation ended with huge success. Honestly, thank you very much.」

Luna lowered her head in a slight bow.

「Yes, so it went well? That’s great. But I only got you here on time, I wasn’t involved with negotiations whatsoever.」

So I don’t think there was any aid from me, but Luna shook her head.

「No, you influenced it more than enough. Because the goblins around the town were part of the plot by the other party, meant to delay me.」

「Plot?」

「Yes. By employing several people with jobs of《Monster Tamer》or《Monster Summoner》they used to summon monsters and guide goblins and orcs in the vicinity of the cities in order to position them between the City of Stars and the City of Winds. All in order to gain an upper hand in the negotiations by making me bear responsibility for the supposed damages I induced by making them wait.」

「Aah, so that’s why the abnormal outbreak of those monsters happened without any prior signs.」

Typically, several months prior to an abnormal outbreak there is something that might serve as a cause.

Taking the previous case as example, abnormal outbreaks for goblins and orcs often happen several months after they enter a mating season.

However, for several months before this incident, no monsters akin to goblins have entered a mating season. That’s why I thought that it was tad strange, but—

「To think they’d go that hard after a negotiator…」

「Because that was a good chance for them to pull a large sum of money from me and consequently from this country. Going this far isn’t strange at all. Therefore, though the opponent was somewhat difficult… Thanks to Axel-sama’s assistance I could arrive very early and thus were able to challenge them with composure. In addition, Fang, who came late, was able to capture a few monster tamers and made them confess, thus making the whole thing an easy victory.」

「Ah, so that’s why Fang arrived late.」

「Hahaha, sorry for saying that I will catch up right away. It took me a while to find a tamer that was hiding in the darkness.」

Fang that was smiling wryly saying that, showed up only an hour ago.

No matter how many monsters were there, I thought that if he was alone he would be able to arrive a little earlier, and as I was wondering just what he was doing, it turns out that he captured a monster tamer.

「Well, there is also that Axel-san arrived way too fast. After all, I think that《Carrier》riding a dragon is just against the rules.」

「Even if you say that. Not using what you can use is just wasteful, right, Berzelia?」

「Yup, yup. I also felt good flying without holding back for the first time in a while. 」

Berzelia smiles happily.

Were she to fly seriously inside of a town a serious damage would follow, that’s why usually she quietly walks around the town.

Looking at Berzelia, who was energetically consuming tavern’s food, I thought that maybe it’s necessary to let her soar through the sky from time to time.

「…Well, what? First of all, both of you arrived safe and sound, and on top of that, negotiations ended in a huge success, there is nothing more to add.」

「Indeed… Ah, that’s right. I forgot something important. I have to give this to Axel-san.」

Having said that, Luna put the bag in front of me with a loud thud.
