Chapter 239 (1/2)

Chapter 239

Time ticked past.

When Zhong Yuhuan calmed down, she clearly heard Huo Chengming’s voice talking to the person on the other side of the phone. Huo Chengming spoke in English, but would occasionally add in a bit of Italian and a handful of Turkish.

When Zhong Yuhuan heard this, she instinctively turned towards Huo Chengming.

Zhong Yuhuan felt a bit surprised.

She would seldom notice the details of Huo Chengming’s speech.

But now, because her vision was obstructed, her other senses became more acute than ever! Zhong Yuhuan captured the sullen anger of Huo Chengming’s tone, as well as a bit of coldness when he lowered his voice.

This made her feel like Huo Chengming wasn’t asking the embassy for help, but rather reprimanding his subordinates or cooperators.

Zhong Yuhuan hadn’t spoken for a long time.

Li Jinyuan seemed to unconsciously hold her finger, then asked, “Is Huanhuan still scared?”

Zhong Yuhuan shook her head, curiously asking, “Who’s Huo Chengming calling?”

“Embassy.”

“The one who called the embassy was you. Does it take this long to call for help?” Zhong Yuhuan said unhappily.

What the hell!

They haven’t even had girlfriends yet, nor embarked on a private life but already have their own little secret! Zhong Yuhuan thought sadly.

When Huo Chengming heard her voice, he hung up without any changes in his expression. “I’ve hung up.” He paused, then said, “There’ll be someone picking us up in a bit.”

Zhong Yuhuan broke away from Li Jinyuan’s hand, tugging on the coat.

Huo Chengming’s windbreaker nearly wrapped her up from head to toe. She popped her head out and cleared her sight by tugging on the coat. She looked at Huo Chengming, just as he was looking towards her. Unprepared, Zhong Yuhuan looked into Huo Chengming’s eyes. She unconsciously shivered from his deep and focused gaze.

Zhong Yuhuan was inexplicably shocked.

She felt… like she saw an unusual sense of focus in Huo Chengming’s eyes.

Focus that made Zhong Yuhuan feel at a loss of what to do.

Huo Chengming didn’t seem to expect that she would land her unobstructed gaze on him as she suddenly tugged down on the coat to stick out her head.

Huo Chengming’s expression quickly changed as he withdrew his gaze and returned to normal.

His changes weren’t significant, but Zhong Yuhuan had interacted with him for so long, so how could she not see them?

Huo Chengming’s change at that instant made Zhong Yuhuan feel that something was off.

What was he so anxious to hide?

Wen Yongchen’s voice broke Zhong Yuhuan’s train of thought.

Turned out that he also came over some time ago.

Wen Yongchen opened his mouth and said, “Li Jinyuan is correct. These people may open fire at civilians, but they probably won’t aim at the church.”

Zhong Yuhuan casually nodded. In fact, she didn’t pay attention to what Wen Yongchen said at all. Also, what Wen Yongchen said was the same as not saying anything at all; it was meaningless.

Wen Yongchen stopped his footsteps, slightly turned his head, and said, “Listen, the sounds outside seem further away.”

Zhong Yuhuan finally turned her attention to Wen Yongchen. Copying his actions, she turned her head to the side and listened to the sounds outside the church, “… Mhm, seems like they did leave.”
