Lilian slightly nodded as she looked at his receding back. She looked hesitantly at the door handle, and finally, it appeared that she had made up her mind to do something. She pushed the door open and entered Emily's bedroom.

Emily was lying, pale and quiet in the bed.

Lilian stood at the foot of Emily's bed for a while, her hands wrenching at her uniform indecisively. She suddenly whispered to Emily, ”Don't blame me. I have been forced to do this.”

She spoke in such a low voice that Emily didn't hear her. Without caring whether Emily had heard her or not, the maid started searching for something in the bedroom.

At this moment, Jacob entered from the outside and saw Lilian standing in front of the desk in a fluster. He looked at her and said, ”What are you doing there? Get out now!”

”Just now, Lady Emily said that she wanted to drink some water. I was pouring water for her, sir.” The servant was clever. There was a set of cups and a water decanter on the desk, making her excuse plausible.

Jacob nodded his head while shortly replying, ”Hmm.” He walked over to sit beside Emily's bed, aware that Lilian had hurried out in a fluster once his back was turned.

The moment that Lilian closed the door, Emily suddenly opened her eyes and said, ”Jacob, that girl was rummaging through the room for something!”

”I know.”

Jacob had already determined that the servant had only been there to search through the bedroom. Everything on his desk was always in order. Even if Emily had worked at his desk, she would have definitely put all the things back in place. But this foolish and deceptive servant hadn't put everything back in place after rifling through his drawers and documents.
