Chapter 1321 It Was Ridiculous (1/2)
In the end, Estelle's heart softened, relenting. She gently wiped the tears from Ellen's face and set aside the absurd tale about Sybil. She wrapped Ellen's hands with her own as they sat together on the sofa.
”Don't cry. Tell me exactly what happened,” Estelle comforted her.
Seeing that Estelle had finally decided to try and help her with this problem, Ellen suddenly felt hope spring anew. Bluntly and without guile, Ellen related everything that had transpired on that day to Estelle.
She revealed how she and Hanley had travelled to the mountain and how the murder had been the result of an accident. Tearfully, she explained the whole incident.
Listening to Ellen's side of things, Estelle flared up and, in a fit of rage, punched the sofa with her clenched fist. Indignation burned in her eyes as she snapped, ”This guy Hanley really was an asshole!”
She couldn't even begin to imagine what might have happened to her sister on that day if the scumbag had really had his way with her.
But realizing in hindsight that he had already paid the ultimate price for his wicked ways, she felt somewhat relieved.
Ellen couldn't help trembling when she recalled the events of that day. Seeing her young face contort in fear, Estelle felt great pity for her. She sat down beside her and rubbed her back soothingly, saying, ”It's fine now. It's all over. You just met up with the wrong guy this time. Be more careful next time when you choose your friends.”
Ellen nodded, looking most upset. ”But now, with what happened, what should I do? Estelle, I really don't want to rot in prison–I'm still so young!”
Hearing her panic, Estelle sighed. Although Hanley's behavior had been despicable, he probably hadn't deserved to die for it, but he was dead, and there was no way to undo that. Based on Ellen's description of the events, he had been the one who had caused the accident.
”Ellen, are you sure that you have told me everything as truthfully as you can remember?” Estelle asked.
