Chapter 948 A Thorn In The Flesh (1/2)
”Achoo!”
Rita sneezed abruptly and loudly. This helped bring her back to her senses after having been drugged by Darren for a second time. She had been a bit groggy before but she was wide awake now.
She hadn't responded when Darren talked to her, hoping to piss him off. But he had ignored her and transferred her and the kids to where they were now after he'd received a strange call. The place was dark and wet but it seemed safe enough. She was just thankful that she and the kids were still together and alive.
Time seemed to have stool still here in this dead silent room. Rita tried to look around the room. After some time, she concluded that they were in some sort of deserted basement.
She prayed in her heart that David and Jacob would find them soon and she was confident that they would. It was just a matter of time. The most troubling thing was where they had taken Emily. She then closed her eyes out of frustration and helplessness.
”Mommy? Where are we now? This place stinks!” Dylan suddenly complained.
He was a little bigger than Beryl. Maybe it was because he was a boy and his physical condition was better, but he woke up earlier than Beryl did even though Darren had given them the same amount of drugs.
Dylan looked around cautiously. He felt something on his shoulder and found that Beryl had fallen asleep leaning against it.
”Hush, my little boy! Listen carefully to Mommy.” Rita lowered her voice and put her finger over her mouth.
She cast a quick glance at the door where the only light in their room came from before she continued, ”Darren has kidnapped us. Please take care of yourself and Beryl. I'll find a way to get us out of here.”
Rita didn't really know if she could find a way to get them out of there but she thought that a little confidence and hope wouldn't hurt, or else, they might not make it until they were actually rescued. She also warned Dylan to keep a distance from Darren and to be careful with him because he was a demon in human form.
”I promise, Mommy!” Dylan nodded his little head with a serious look on his face.
He then lowered his head to look at Beryl, who was sleeping soundly. A sense of responsibility was rising from the bottom of his heart. He was the only man here and, despite his age, he felt obligated to protect Beryl, his mother, and the baby his mother was carrying.
Dylan then adjusted his body so that Beryl would be more comfortable. Beryl looked like a pure angel with her adorable, rounded face. Dylan took a deep breath and swore that he would never let her down because she trusted him and respected him.
Rita felt tears welling up under her eyes as she watched this scene unfold between the two children.
