Chapter 82 - A Dog Biting Another Dog (2/2)
“Kill me and chop me into pieces if you want to but I’ll never kneel!” Lao Guzhuo struggled against the clansmen beside him and stood up ferociously, his eyes blazing.
A few clansmen were about to push Lao Guzhuo forcibly but stopped when Ye Chen waved his hand. Ye Chen glanced at Lao Guzhuo. He did not expect this man to have such a backbone.
“What’s your name?” Ye Chen asked Lao Guzhuo.
“Lao Guzhuo!” Lao Guzhuo glanced at Ye Chen and sneered. “Do your worst!”
“Grandpa, everyone else was killed. Just let him go.” Ye Chen pondered for a moment before pointing at Lao Guzhuo.
The clansmen did not understand. Why should Lao Guzhuo be released? Lao Guzhuo was similarly stunned and looked at Ye Chen in astonishment. He did not react at all. Why was Ye Chen willing to let him go? Was Ye Chen not afraid that he would come back for revenge?
Ye Chen glanced at Lao Guzhuo and said, “You broke into my Ye Castle and harmed my clansmen, so we’ll naturally want justice. We’ve already killed the others, but seeing as you’ve shown me how much of a backbone you have, I’ll release you. Go. If you want revenge in the future, you’re welcome to try. My Ye Castle will meet you anytime!” He then looked at his clansmen. “Untie his bounds.”
Although the clansmen were unwilling, they still untied the rope around Lao Guzhuo after seeing that Ye Chen’s mind had been decided. Lao Guzhuo stared intently at Ye Chen before fist saluting and leaping away.
“Little Chen, why did you let that man go?” Ye Zhantian watched Lao Guzhuo’s disappearing back. He got away just by having a little backbone. That did not make sense.
Ye Chen smiled faintly. “Father, I’ve thought about it carefully. There aren’t any feelings of comradeship among these people. It can be seen from how that Big Man Lei had abandoned Lao Guzhuo earlier. Who do you think Lao Guzhuo hates the most now?”
Ye Changxuan’s eyes brightened at Ye Chen’s words, and he exclaimed, “Brilliant!”
The others also understood with just this little hint. Big Man Lei had dug his own grave by breaking into Ye Castle and had no one to blame but himself. These people had no affection for each other. The House of Ye had killed six of them but Lao Guzhuo did not harbor much hatred for the House of Ye. The person Lao Guzhuo resented the most should be the Big Man Lei who had abandoned him at his most dangerous moment. By releasing Lao Guzhuo, he would bite Big Man Lei like a dog bit another dog. Was this not ingenious?
Ye Zhantian and the others nodded slightly. Little Chen’s decision was indeed well thought out.
The remaining people had been killed by the House of Ye. They had come to massacre the House of Ye without any provocation, and were most likely people who had killed others as if they were ants. People like them were better off dead!
Ye Chen looked to the distance and sighed. This world was too chaotic. Without enough strength, one would not even be able to protect oneself. If Ye Castle’s strength had not been increased, even if the Second-Rank Prince of Donglin did not bother the House of Ye, just these Nanman Kingdom savages would be enough to exterminate the House of Ye. It would be fine if the Nanman Kingdom did not pursue the deaths of these savages but if they did, it might be traced back to the House of Ye. A clan must never go against an entire kingdom. Thinking about this, Ye Chen had a sense of urgency to get stronger.
After level advancement, it became more difficult to progress further. Following several days of consideration, Ye Chen made up his mind to go to the Sunken Jade Tower. Perhaps he would find a way to improve his strength in the Sunken Jade Tower. If he could break through Tenth Level, he would have enough strength to deal with trouble if they arose.
After things had settled down, Ye Castle also became tranquil. However, they were still on their guard. When news had spread that Lianyun Mountain’s Sunken Jade Tower was about to open, at least a dozen groups of people would be walking down the little path outside Ye Castle, and each group was comprised of at least ten people, all Ninth Level and above. These people had come from all around the Xiwu Empire, and there were even people from other countries.
These Ninth Level combatants went deep into the Lianyun Mountains to search for the Sunken Jade Tower’s entrance. It was said that every time the Sunken Jade Tower opened, the location of the entrance would change.
