Chapter 246: Extra - Lu Chenzhou And Cheng Xi: I’m Only Happy When I'm With You (I)
After Cheng Xi married Lu Chenzhou, she spent the next three years in Gansu, where her illustrious career truly started taking off. When she was reassigned back to Renyi, she published her paper “Novel Treatment Procedures in Psychiatric Care,” which was based on the three years’ experience she had accumulated treating these illnesses in Gansu. The paper provided new modes of thinking and treatment plans for many long-standing difficult mental illnesses.
Her paper was actually published in Nature, one of the most well-known science journals in the West.
With this success, Cheng Xi’s name started circulating within the world of psychiatry. At the same time, because of the success of her work in Gansu, she aroused the attention and curiosity of psychiatrists worldwide. As her organization expanded both in size, influence, and scope, more and more people and other, smaller organizations flocked toward it.
Of course, the latter didn’t have much to do with Cheng Xi anymore. Ever since Ceng Xing had gone to Gansu, Cheng Xi had given him all of the liaison and administrative tasks. Thus, unlike Cheng Xi, who focused wholeheartedly on medical treatment and research, Ceng Xing spent the majority of his time on administrative tasks—and the results showed that he was far better as an administrator than a psychiatrist.
In the end, he also found a career path that was suitable for him.
And in order to better manage this burgeoning organization, Ceng Xing transferred to Lanzhou General Hospital shortly after arriving in Gansu. It was at Lanzhou that he met his true love.
His marriage took place a year before Cheng Xi left Gansu, and by the time Cheng Xi finally did leave, he had already had a child who was almost a hundred days old; his relationship had progressed very rapidly.
On the day that Cheng Xi left, the weather was good, and Ceng Xing had brought his wife and child to see her off. When he saw Lu Chenzhou and Chen Jiaman by Cheng Xi’s side, he intentionally teased, “Mr. Lu, this is the goddaughter that Cheng Xi claimed on your behalf. Aren’t you going to hug her?”
As expected, Mr. Lu’s face turned ashen.
Once again, Cheng Xi had made him a “father” without asking for his permission or agreement—a godfather was still a father!
But what upset him even more was the fact that the man in front of him had been in such low spirits when he and Cheng Xi had gotten married. And now, he seemed to be a completely new person…… When Lu Chenzhou thought about it, he really was somewhat of a failure. Over the last three years, he visited Gansu about once a month on average, and depending on Cheng Xi’s ovulation period, stayed around ten days per visit each time. Unfortunately, although he had strived to sow his seed with great effort, the field remained barren even after three years!
Even Baldy had become a father by now, and he constantly bragged to Lu Chenzhou, “My son’s going to be born any day now! Where’s your daughter and my future daughter-in-law?”
Mr. Lu didn’t like sons, and he had always wanted a cute and gentle daughter like Cheng Xi. But before Cheng Xi could give birth to a daughter, Ceng Xing had come along with a supposed “goddaughter” for him. Unfortunately for Lu Chenzhou, Cheng Xi evidently liked this little baby girl very much. When Lu Chenzhou shied away from the baby, she smiled, received the baby from Ceng Xing, and held her lovingly as she said to Chen Jiaman, “Look, your sister’s cute, isn’t she? Feel her hands—my goodness, they’re so soft. Ah, she scratched me~ She’s quite strong.”
Cheng Xi cradled the baby for the entire trip to the airport, not complaining at all.
Lu Chenzhou was unhappy, and when they finally boarded the plane, he flipped her around to face him. “Why are you so enthusiastic about embracing someone else?”
“......That was a three-month-old baby……”
Lu Chenzhou stared at her until Cheng Xi couldn’t stand it anymore. She preemptively hugged him of her own accord and then, in a particularly mushy fashion, said, “Alright, alright. It was my mistake. I shouldn’t have hugged anyone else. You’re also my baby, and I’ll only hug you.”
Mr. Lu rested his head on her knees, only feeling content after she cradled him for the entire flight.
With Lu Chenzhou around, Chen Jiaman was normally particularly obedient. However, on this flight, she couldn’t help herself from flinging a few supercilious glances at Lu Chenzhou before secretly whispering to Cheng Xi, “Dad’s really childish.”
Cheng Xi laughed. “It’s alright. I don’t mind.”
