Chapter 40 (1/2)
As soon as Li finished speaking, the command cabin was silent. It was very quiet.
Upon seeing Dan’s furrowed brows, Li did not rush him. He waited quietly for him to answer.
He believed that Dan would make a smart decision.
One of the reasons why Li said that the Ninth merchant group was the target was because he wanted to inform them in advance. After receiving the information, they would be mentally prepared. They would not have any accidents on the battlefield, or they would simply retreat and delay the battle.
The other reason was that he would ask Dan to investigate once more to promote cooperation.
There was a rule within the Sylvester family that clansmen could be hostile to each other and suppress each other. However, they could not attack each other. Otherwise, they would be personally hunted down by the Supreme Elder Council.
It was precisely because of this rule that even if Li and Dan were hostile to each other, they would still help each other.
Dan was very clear about the family’s rules. Therefore, he was seriously considering it.
After a long time, Dan said, “I need to think about it. I’ll give you an answer tomorrow morning. Do you have anything else?”
Li raised his eyebrows and chuckled. “Then I’ll wait for your news.”
“Remember the conditions. You take the lead and I’ll pick first with 80% of the harvest. Otherwise, you’ll deal with them by yourself. In any case, I’m not the one who accepted the family mission, and the one who will be punished will not be me. You have to remember it well.”
After Li finished speaking, the communication channel was cut off.
Dan could not hold it in any longer. He picked up the glass in front of him and smashed it on the ground angrily.
“B*stard, he’s going too far. You want me to take the lead and take a big share of the prize? Why don’t you just die?”
“You son of a b*tch, I’ll take my revenge sooner or later!”
After venting his anger, Dan looked at the adjutant beside him with red eyes. “What are you looking at? Call Da now. I want to talk to him.”
“Investigate the Ninth merchant group again. If I didn’t get anything by 6:00 P.M., you can go to hell.”
The adjutant swallowed his saliva and hurriedly agreed.
Not long after, Dan’s communication channel was picked up.
Looking at the furious Dan on the other side of the screen, Da seemed to understand something. “Is it because of Li, or did he look for you?”
Dan nodded and told him the contents of the previous call.
“I don’t think that guy lied to me, and there’s no need for that. We can find out after our investigation. However, he asked me to be the first to charge, but I can only get 20% of the profits. How can I agree to that?”
“He’s using the family mission as a reason to blackmail me now. What do you think?”
Da was silent for a while, he said, “If there’s no problem with the information, we can cooperate with him. Completing the family mission is the most important goal. The punishment is too heavy. As for the profits, we have to discuss it with him later. We’ll tell him we want 50% of it. If he disagrees, we’ll take 30% of it. We have to attack both sides at the same time.”
Da did not care about Dan’s gloomy face, he then continued, “The family will not tolerate people attacking each other. However, the spoils of war are different. If the spoils of war are taken away by an unknown person, as long as the person is fine and there is no evidence to prove who did it, it’ll immediately become an unsolved case.”
“There are many things like this in the family. Everyone knows this.”
Dan was stunned for a moment. A smile gradually appeared on his face. This reminded him of something.
That was right. The family’s rules were to deal with people, not items. Even if everyone knew that the spoils of war had been snatched away by the clansmen, it would still be useless without any concrete evidence.
If they were to really cause a ruckus because their spoils of war were snatched, they would still be looked down upon by the clansmen. If they could not take care of their loots, how could they be respected by others?
Of course, this tacit understanding only existed in the younger generation. If the older generation were to deal with the younger generation, then that would be another rule.
The family had to develop for a long time. The young people had to fight with each other to decide who was the strongest. Only then would they be able to protect the family. If the older generation joined in, it would shake the foundation of the family.
