14 Lets Be Friends (1/2)

After dragging him away from our families, we'd arrived out on a balcony that leads out into one of the many gardens that are in my house. Taking a deep breath, I turn and look at the little elf child.

His face was beet red, and his eyes look like they're slightly spinning in their sockets. I quickly release his hand and take a step towards him.

”Are you okay?” I ask him, getting closer to him. I reach out to place my hand on his forehead, but he takes a step back and my hand falls short.

”It's inappropriate to do that,” he sputters out with a great deal of effort.

”What did I do that's inappropriate?”

”A lady shouldn't grab another's hand if they're not to be engaged!” He half yelps out.

I cover my mouth with my hand, he had to be joking! I felt my stomach twist int knots, what in the world he was a prude. But I choke back my laughter and smooth a hand over my dress.

”I'm sorry, I didn't know that it's inappropriate for an elf to hold hands with someone else before being engaged,” I say trying my best to act innocent and not let him know that I was laughing at him.

His face was drawn into a pout, and I want to pat his head. He looked like a child that had just been told that their favorite cartoon hero wasn't real.

”It's not an elf custom, it's just something that my mother told me, that you shouldn't hold hand with someone that you don't like,” he spoke softly.

Leaning against the balcony, I look at the beautiful child in front of me. He was such a mama's boy, wasn't he?

It couldn't hurt to mess with him a little bit could it?

”Does that mean you don't like me?” I ask him innocently.

He jerks his head up and gives me a once over. Before, he lowers his head slightly and gives a quick and curt nod of his head.

”It's not that I don't like you, it's just that you surprised me, that's all,” he says with a firm nod of his head.

I smile slightly, he wasn't a bad kid. He's probably a lot like me, his parents are ambassadors and he probably doesn't have any friends either. That meant that he was most likely in the same boat as me.

He seems nice enough, I wouldn't mind for us to become friends. I hadn't made any friends since being in this world that are the same age as me, well, same age physical. Maybe not so much mentally.

Either way, he didn't seem like a bad person, and it already seems that our parents are on good terms with each other.

”I'm sorry, I didn't mean to surprise you, I just got a little excited to meet someone my age,” I tell him with a wide smile.

He lifts his head up and makes eye contact with me and shuffles forward slightly.

”It's also my fault, I don't get to meet others my age, as well,” he tells me now standing closer in front of me.

”It looks like we're both at fault.”

”It does.”

We both look at each other before we start to giggle to ourselves. This was the first time that I'd gotten to talk to someone like this… it was really comfortable.

After the laughter dies down, I push myself off the balcony edge and give a small bow.

”Hollis Grey Astley, at your services,” I tell him.

He straightens his back as well and gives a small bow back.

”Pleasure, Silvyr Elkas at your disposal,” he responds back. ”Should I call you… Young Miss?” He asks me.

”No, I'd prefer that we call each other by our names! Isn't that what friends do?” I ask him, with a wide grin.

His face also breaks out into a wide smile. ”I'd like that… Hollis.”

”Great! I'll call you Silvyr then,” I tell him grabbing his hand. This time he doesn't freak out and grasp my hand as well.

”Umm…hello?” A quiet voice sounds from behind Silvyr. Letting go of his hand, I lean and look behind him and see a petite little girl standing in the doorway that lead to the ballroom that we'd just left.

She was very small; she steps forward a little more. She's dressed in a simple top that had a lot of jewelry dangling from it. It's a deep blue and her pants are the same, with a bunch of jewelry hanging from it.

She's got warm almond brown colored skin and on her skin was a beautiful inscribed tattoo, that stretches from her hands to over my shoulder ending at the bottom of her stomach. Her eyes are a bright golden brown and quite huge like a doll. Her hair is braided down her back.

”Hi,” I say with a wide smile.

She was just too cute, I step around Silvyr and move closer to the other child that's there now. A small smile starts on her lip.
