10 – Resisting at the End of the Road

“Old Director Yan, currently the lower parts of the hospital are full of zombies, You going out is very dangerous. ah!”

In a staff room, a young doctor wearing a lab coat, dissuaded an old man.

“Don’t stop me! He’s my only son, if you dare to stop me once more, then I’ll fire you!” The old man held a crutch as he roared, he wanted to push open the door that was blocked by a few tables.

“Waah woohoo …”

A baby’s cries suddenly sounded in the midst of the quarreling noises – there were still some other people in the room, among them was a woman embracing a several month old child.

“Don’t be so f.u.c.king noisy!” A shocking roar reverberated in the room – sitting together with that woman –  a square faced and upright looking man stood up, he was approximately 1.90m tall and was holding a brown coated SVD sniper rifle, he appeared to be particularly oppressive.

“There are monsters outside, Yan Henggong, you’ll die if you go out!”1

“Even you, chief officer Ironheart Qi … is there really no way?” The old director became stunned.

“Sorry, I’m … powerless.”

The man known as Ironheart Qi shook his head to indicate his powerlessness.

Originally, as this city’s chief officer, he was several month out on his business trip – then finally his wife, with great difficulty, gave birth to their child, he rushed back and then happened this kind of thing.

Resident Evil, who hadn’t heard of this thing? But to truly find oneself in the middle of it was another matter.

“Alas …” The old director weakly fell to the ground, he looked at the outside through the window, at the zombies that gradually flocked towards the hospital: “This city is done for as well as we are.”

“Still, if it wasn’t for this d.a.m.ned kid!”

The young doctor gave Sun Qi, who had just a moment ago rushed into the room, an angry look. Sun Qi was scared silly and curled up in a corner of the room.

“Quit it, I’m the one to blame for saving him and attracting those monsters.” Ironheart Qi waved his hand, then loaded his sniper rifle, in his mind he was still thinking about Lu Qiu’s pupils emitting scarlet radiance in the darkness.

That guy definitely wasn’t a human! Ironheart Qi was sure about it …

“What was that?” The old director, originally with an ash grey complexion, raised his head and through the window suddenly discovered a trace of radiance appearing in the sky.

“Um? Helicopter … rescue team!”

The originally helpless Ironheart Qi saw a force of helicopters closely packed in a formation in the pitch-black sky, the force hovered over the city.

“It’s the government! New China Federation’s army sent someone to rescue us!”

“We’re saved!” Almost everyone relaxed.

Including the old director, who even stood up in excitement and raised the crutch in his hand …

“We’re … save …”

He hadn’t even finished speaking.

“Grrr!!” The entrance that was originally blocked by several tables was suddenly kicked open, the old director was grabbed by the neck, by a badly mangled and mutilated arm, preventing him from speaking.

“f.u.c.k!” Ironheart Qi immediately reacted and fired a shot at the door, following the gunshot, the zombie screeched and then the blood gus.h.i.+ng out announced its death.

The old director’s neck was severed because of the zombie’s huge strength.

With the unexpected death of the old director, everyone that had just relaxed had their hearts tense up once again, realizing that it still was very dangerous!

“Lets go to the roof, only then might we be rescued!” Ironheart Qi moved the tables, then carefully opened the door, kicked away the zombie, raised his rifle, stuck out his head inside the corridor and quickly looked left and right.

There was no one … no zombie …

“Quick! To the staircase, let’s run to the rooftop and then we’re gonna be rescued!”

Under Ironheart Qi’s cry, the young doctor was the quickest to run, directly das.h.i.+ng to the staircase, not bothering with the others.

Only the woman holding the child as well as Sun Qi ran up to Ironheart Qi …

“Go quickly, our child is still small, we can’t let it die here.” Ironheart Qi instructed his wife, the woman nodded and ran upstairs while hugging her baby.

Sun Qi didn’t say a word, he only silently kept pace with the woman.

Just when Ironheart Qi intended to catch up to them.

Yet there appeared a figure in the corridor …

Ironheart Qi opened his eyes wide, looking at the being walking into the corridor from a corner.

Those scarlet pupil and that pale skin … that strange smile, as if excited for some reason.

That … monster?

Time at this moment appeared to slow down.

Lu Qiu looked at the several fleeing prey, raised his hand, immediately afterwards zombies ran past him from behind, as long as they pa.s.sed the corner, they could see their dinner …

Ironheart Qi cried out, practically being the loudest that he ever was, he called out almost at the same time as Lu Qiu waved his arm.

“Quickly, run!! Run as fast as you can! Run!”

“Grrrrrrrrrr!!”

Hundreds of zombies sprung up from behind Lu Qiu and rushed towards those several living people while screeching.

Those humans, in order to survive, regardless of their physical strength, no matter how tired they were nor if they couldn’t budge anymore, they still forced themselves to run towards the staircase!
