Chapter 5 (1/2)

5 – The World’s Sorrowful Transformation

Within the Defense Cabinet of the New Federal Capital …

Currently it’s early in the morning, the sun still hasn’t completely risen and the people appeared to be particularly busy.

In the middle of a lounge a holographic projection continuously played scenes of a few humans attacking each other, images of biting and swallowing, dripping blood, coupled with the screams, it looked like a low-budget movie.

Yet this really isn’t a movie, but reality.

It was from five hours ago, the images were taken at nine o’clock in the evening, Wen Han City’s time.

The warning of a viral spill has been already spread throughout the entire New China Federation – everyone in the Defense Cabinet became busy.

“What is this?” A youth of approximately twenty years of age, stood in the middle of the lounge, as he examined the recording on the holographic projection with his eyes glimmering dangerously – sharp as a hawks.

“Have you seen the movie called Resident Evil? Major Su Lei, it seems as if the plot of the movie is starting in that city, ah. However, those creatures seem to be interested in increasing their numbers, how about seizing a few for me to research?”

A frivolous voice sounded at the youth’s side, as a middle-aged scientist stepped forward – wearing a lab coat with gla.s.ses mirroring a white radiance,  and a head full of long gray hair.

“Professor Heike! Please pay attention to what you say.”

The youth known as Major Su Lei stared at the slowly approaching scientist, as his imposing voice reverberated through out the lounge.

“Are you angry? It’s no wonder, being a level-A Flame Manipulator, you not being able to afford to lose your temper is also normal – however, Major Su Lei, what I said is down to business.”

On the scientist’s gla.s.ses, that covered the ash black eyes, was reflected a somewhat sly mood.

“The preliminary judgement is that the disaster was caused by the city’s water supply being contaminated by a virus, resulting in a chain infection. The infected will become extremely aggressive and famished. Additionally, they don’t … to say that they eat food, that would be the flesh and blood of living people.”

Saying until here, the scientist called Heike adjusted his gla.s.ses, then spat a terrifying fact after being silent for some time.

“If we don’t hurry and seal that city, then perhaps it will turn into a disaster on a global scale.”

“Where did the virus come from?” Su Lei gave the scientist a piercing look.

“Hey, I wouldn’t dare to make something with such dire consequences for humanity. Although in normal circ.u.mstances, with your branch’s help, I have made similar experiments with several convicts, but all of them were failures.

Heike’s tone had a bit of desire in it, as pointed at the zombie, that could rip a person into pieces, in the background of the projected recording.

“The city’s residents are already beyond saving. How about giving me the control over the city? Perhaps I can tame these fascinating creatures.”

Power, fierceness, battle thirst, evolution, and with countless numbers.

It’s practically an undying race with it’s sole purpose being war.

“Professor, don’t even think about involving humanity in your twisted research!” Su Lei put on his military hat and turned around to leave the lounge: “This city is going to be personally managed by me! I will settle this disaster!”

“The New China Federation merely has six level-A Power Users, the commitment of one of them sounds really a.s.suring … however, ah, Major Su Lei.”

Heike was pointing at the pictures that were continuously transmitted from all over that city.

“If you don’t hurry a little, then it seems like the New China Federation will have several more Level-A Power Users, oh, no … creatures!”

This pack of evolved … guys.

Su Lei didn’t answer the man and directly strode out of the Defense Cabinet.

“Tch!”

At a residential district, in the afternoon, Lu Qiu sat within a room, he was biting on his thumb while watching what appeared on the computer screen.

The curtains in the room have already been pulled shut. As a Vampire, Lu Qiu can be hurt by the suns.h.i.+ne.

“To react so quickly, the new federation, that waste, is still somewhat capable.”

In this information age, the information about the disaster in this city was spread then overnight in the whole New China Federation by the means of the internet.

The government wants to hide in Tibet.

It nearly became the headline of major newspapers.

‘Virus spill’ ‘Real-life Resident Evil?’ ‘The Judgement day is nigh’ ‘G.o.d is punis.h.i.+ng mankind’

All the t.i.tles talk about what’s happening in that city.

“Humans, it’s nothing more than a prelude, ah.”

Lu Qiu is more concerned about the way the country is handling the city.

The adopted measure was a seal off policy, the city’s major channels and roads were all closed off by a high fence, furthermore, heavy infantry was dispatched to guard it.

If one wants to leave the city, one needs to be checked whether one carries the virus.

Those infected close to the edge of the city will be stricken down by fire arms.

Last night, after Lu Qiu dumped the virus into the water supply, the first batch of infected had already appeared ten minutes later

When the first batch of infected appeared, Lu Qiu did not get any Despair Points.

Those that were directly infected by the drinking water and choked to death, won’t they despair, ah?

So after the second batch of infected appeared, large amounts of Despair Points poured into Lu Qiu.

Those that were close relatives, lovers and friends just a while ago, turned into monsters, as their corpses were left with a sense of hunger.

That would definitely lead anyone to die in despair.

“System.”
