15 Chapter 15 They Are So Screwed... (1/2)

”Since you saved my life, I owe you so I will go wherever you go. Now tell me about yourself!”

Jake spit out the bite in his mouth as he turned to look at her.

He collected himself and then said to her calmly, ”I'm not going back so if you are going to follow me, you will stay with me in the woods forever.”

The pleading look on her face instantly melted away as she thought about living out in the wilderness alone with another guy forever.

'Is he crazy? Why would someone so powerful seclude themselves out here in the middle of nowhere? Does he not know about the changes that have occurred in the world so far?'

Jake thought about what happened when he left school and went to Canada. He talked to his mother and father about what had happened. Their attitudes on what was going on with him made it very clear that they thought he was insane. The worst part was when he showed them that he could fly and lift their car up. They believed that he was a freak.

”Look Mom! I'm not lying. Watch me.”

Jake ran over to the pickup truck in the parking lot of Boston University. With one hand, he grabbed and lifted the truck into the air and then caught it with both hands, the truck being held above him.

His mother's eyes were wide with absolute shock and his father backed away from him. The proud look that Jake expected from his parents wasn't there. Instead what he saw was terror. Terror that was deep in their souls.

”That's not my son! What the hell are you and what have you done with my son!” Shouted his mother as she collapsed to the ground, holding her head and rocked back and forth.

Jake turned to his father but he looked at him as if he couldn't recognize him at all. He was about to say something but then his demeanor changed. His eyes became cold and he looked at his parents one last time before running away from them.

The memory came and the wound on his soul that was healing opened up again. He told himself that he wouldn't leave the woods and go back to society because he realized that his powers, his system... they made him different from everyone else.

No matter where he goes from here on out, he will be different.

And that scares him.

Taylor looks at Jake and realizes that the man is looking into the fire, absentmindedly turning the boat on the stick, and sees within his eyes that something is missing from those eyes. It's like he has emotional baggage that is weighing him down and he can't seem to get past.

Jake, snaps out of his trance and smiles to her as if nothing just happened. Taylor did a double-take and she could have sworn that what she saw earlier happened but from his different demeanor, it was as if she hallucinated.

”So where are you from?” she asks him.

After a long pause, he says, ”I don't want to talk about that.”

She understood that he must have had a hard time back home or something like that so she stopped asking him questions. They ate silently across from one another and the night soon turned into morning.
