Chapter 44 (1/2)
After Zhai Shiyu had finished her performance and returned backstage, she didn’t return to her seat in the audience like her other classmates did. Instead, she waited to see the performance by Cheng Zhiyan’s class.
As the students in Cheng Zhiyan’s class left the stage, she started searching for Cheng Zhiyan among the crowd of students in red costumes.
A moment later, she caught sight of Cheng Zhiyan wearing his black suit and holding a bouquet of flowers in his hand as he exited the stage. She felt overjoyed and wanted to go and talk to him.
Yet, she suddenly stopped dead in her tracks before she’d even taken a single step.
This was because she’d just seen that Cheng Zhiyan’s other hand was holding onto Xiaotu’s hand and he was gently reminding her to watch her step as she went down the stairs.
She had never seen Cheng Zhiyan act gentle like this before.
She stayed where she was, and she hesitated about whether or not she should go over to talk to him.
“Cheng Zhiyan, that wasn’t too bad. Where did you find your little friend, who gave the flowers that were supposed to be mine to you instead?” Yang Jiayi, wearing a red tutu dress, reached out to block Cheng Zhiyan’s way and asked him jokingly.
“You’ll have to ask Teacher Zhao about this, since I wasn’t the one who arranged for her to go up on the stage to give the flowers to me.” Cheng Zhiyan smiled at Yang Jiayi, giving her a nonchalant response.
“I did notice that when this little girl tripped, Teacher Zhao was the one who helped her up. But then again, this girl made a beeline for you as soon as she climbed up on the stage, so she must be one of your people…” There was absolutely no connection between Yang Jiayi’s first and second sentences. However, somehow Yang Jiayi was insinuating that it appeared as if Cheng Zhiyan had arranged for the little girl to receive the flowers from Teacher Zhao and give them to him.
“If you want these flowers, I can give them to you.” Cheng Zhiyan shrugged his shoulders indifferently and handed the bouquet of flowers he was holding to Yang Jiayi.
HMPH! “I don’t want the flowers. It’s this little girl I’m interested in. Why don’t you give her to me instead?” Yang Jiayi asked with a teasing expression on her face.
“No, Brother Orange Juice, you can’t give me to someone else.” Xiaotu quickly wrapped her hands around Cheng Zhiyan’s arm as she eyed Yang Jiayi in alarm.
