31 The Celestial Heavens (1/2)

Chapter 30: The Celestial Heavens

Van started to carefully inspect every crook and cranny of the strange formation emitting Celestial Qi. It was extremely complex and wasn't anything like the formations he had read about in his past times when he was younger.

Van continued to stare at the strange patterns while recovering his Qi and physical health back to optimal condition. The undead stood outside the range of the celestial formation and continued to hiss, not daring to take one step forward.

Many hours passed as he contemplated the formation. He had surprisingly received a lot of enlightenment from this formation. His special body allowed him to comprehend anything a lot faster than others. Coupled with his previous knowledge of formations, Van gained a new understanding of the application of formations.

”So it could be used this way!”

”Ah! This Qi strand feeds into this smaller inscription that gathers more Qi! It acts like the nervous system! You need some energy to get more energy!”

”I wonder what this does. I can sense a lot of Space Qi. Maybe this is the inscription that initiates the teleportation process?”

Van was starting to understand more of the mysteries of this world. The ancient formations were self-sustainable and could last for a lot longer than modern formations. Modern formations were rather self-sustainable too, but they weren't exactly durable and would usually fall apart within a thousand years.

Van sighed. If only he had been more attentive when listening to his lessons on formations. Since he was the royal failure, his father had exposed him to many fields of study including formation making. At the time, he wasn't too interested in it and was more focused on Martial Arts, despite his constant failure to break through to the next stage.

Well, it was too late for regrets. Holding those negative thoughts would just be putting an obstacle on his cultivation path.

He engraved every part of the simulated ancient formation into his mind. He would study it later when he left the promotion test and improved his knowledge of formations.

Maybe, I'll be a formations master!

Van thought to himself. Being a formations master would give him incredible status in the Sect, allowing him to rise in power faster. Van jumped up and down in glee before quickly calming himself down. He first needed to focus on the situation at hand.

He turned towards the undead and dashed forward into the middle. He unsheathed his saber and threw out so many saber intents, that it formed a cocoon-like shape around him. A split second later, it dispersed into the horde, killing more than half. The undead, being undead, continued to amass and advance towards him.

Van calmly looked at the hundreds of remaining undead before him. He looked like one of the heroes out of the legends.

The examiner was sitting in a comfy chair, a rather panicked expression on her face. She had lost connection to Van's passageway. A strange force seemed to be blocking her from spectating Van.

She was currently trying to contact her higher-ups, but was replied with an ”everything is alright”. She trusted her higher-ups but was rather concerned for the safety of Van. Van was a rather talented cultivator and could go to new heights, befriending him wouldn't be a bad idea.

Van walked back to the Celestial Formation, a time path of corpses in his wake. He found the initiation inscription and took a deep breath.

Was the risk worth it? Was the small chance of fortune worth risking his life for?
