15 Chapter 15: (1/2)

Does she like fish?

I stared at the counter of seafood, unsure if my mate liked fish or not. It was easy to grab other meats since she was a wolf and I stereotyped her to what wolves normal ate. But fish...?

I don't know any wolf that likes fish.

”Would you like anything, kid?” A large man asks me from behind the counter making me jump a little. How did such a big man move so quietly?

”Oh. Um... I'm looking for some raw meat for my dog. Is there any fish that is good for them?” I question as the man grinned at me before laughing.

Did I say something funny?

”Did you just call your mate a dog, boy?” The large man says when I blushed and shook my head quickly.

”No no no! I was jus-”

”Don't worry lad. I won't tell the girl.” The man says with a wink before reaching in the counter to grab some salmon. ”It'll be a moment. Everyone in the pack loves some good salmon.” He tells me while slicing a piece of the salmon for me.

”Thank you...” I leaned over the counter and noticed his name was Chad. ”Chad. I don't know much about my mate. We just connected so I am still getting to know her.” I admit to him as he chuckled and nodded with me.

”I get you. My mate and I were a bunch of the crazies. She refused to speak with me until a rogue was trying to kill her.” Chad's words sent s.h.i.+vers down my spine and I couldn't help but think that Nava and I were much the same way.

Maybe everyone had rough times with their mate...

”I'm sorry for that to happen to you, Chad.” I sympathized as Chad waved it away and packaged the fish.

”That happened many years ago. We're now old and smelly, or so says our children and grandchildren.” Chad laughed wholeheartedly and handed the package to me with a grin.

I hope to be like Chad and his mate one day.

”Thanks again, Chad. But I've got a girl waiting for me at home.” I said with antic.i.p.ation to tell Nava about Chad and his generosity. With one last wave to Chad, I quickly rolled the cart down towards the dairy.

There's was much to learn about my mate.

I s.h.i.+fted the bags in my left hand, unlocking the apartment door as someone else exited the door next to me. The old man glanced over at me in confusion when I smiled and nodded to him.

Without starting a conversation with the old man, I entered into the home quietly and placed the groceries on the table. I could hear Nava still sleeping in the bedroom down the hall, her snores loud and I knew that this was perfect blackmail for later.

Of course, I loved her snores, but I had to record it.

Thomas would find this hilarious.

Silently, I walked down the hallway and peeked in to see her sprawled on the bed with the blankets thrown around the room. A smile stretched onto my face as I went in and picked up the blankets.

”Mhm. You're back.” Nava hums when I wrapped her in the blankets again and pressed my lips to her head.

”Shh. Sleep so more.” I hush her and petted her hair away from her in a calming way. ”Somnum.” She quickly fell victim to my magic, letting it overtake her as she fell asleep once again. The bags underneath still dark and not even her creamy brown skin could cover that she was tired.

Without waking her again, I stood up from her side and left the room quietly. I brushed down the hallway and back into the kitchen with the groceries.

She would be p.i.s.sed when she found out I used my magic on her repeatedly, but it was for her own good. Her body was still not healed from when she was with the a.s.sa.s.sins and even though she wouldn't admit it.

Her wolf was still working to heal them both.

She knew better than to be working herself hard every day. If she wouldn't slow down, I'd force her too.

Which meant she was going to sleep until my magic doesn't compel her too.

It's already been a day and a half. I wonder how much longer her body will take the rest.

Breaking away from my thoughts, I grabbed the bag full of vegetables and placed them inside the fridge that looked ancient. I knew that she'd be heartbroken if I updated this d.a.m.ned fridge, so I have to put up with this for now.

Until we speak about what to do.

But her old pack were friendly once they knew what the situation was between Nava and I. I knew Thomas didn't like me so much at first but that was because his brother was Nava's, late mate.

I sighed, placing the rest of the groceries where they belonged when leaning against the counter and rubbing my tired eyes.

It's funny how I look after Nava and can't even look after myself.

I haven't had a good night of sleep ever since I met Nava and every day I've been dragging more and more. High Priestess Dawn has noticed this and has made me get more and more sleep, but I never feel satisfied or fully awake.

Was this the mate bond pus.h.i.+ng me to take Nava?

Was she feeling this way as well?

Was this why she was so exhausted all the time but refused to rest?

I thought about this when resting my head in my palm, closing my eyes and thinking about Nava and our future.
