5 Chapter 5: (1/2)

”Just try it again, Khole,” Faye spoke softly, Khole shaking a little at the attention she was getting from everyone.

A lot of people were here, expecting this grand show and I knew that she felt everyone's eyes on her. Burning a.s.sumptions into the small woman who was hunched a few steps from Faye and her parents. All the b.i.t.c.hy and too cheery Archmages were around watching as well, each of them wanting a show but receiving nothing but a horrified Khole.

It took her nearly two hours, convinced by Faye and Nava, to finally come downstairs and take the a.s.sessment. Cade and I- surprisingly- were angry that they pushed her so far as to make her come.

I still remember my argument with the two ladies and the thought only disgusted me.

〰 Flashback 〰

”Why would you abuse such a powerless girl like Khole?! She was previously a slave and she followed your orders to come down here! I hope you are disgusted!” I roar at Nava and Faye, suddenly the affection I felt for both women down the drain as if it was swallowed by h.e.l.l itself.

”Not like she was so excited to see you in the first place!” Faye snapped back angrily, turning to Nava with disappointment in her red, searing eyes. ”I can't believe you took him in there after what he told your Alpha! He wanted to outright reject her and throw her into the pit of h.e.l.l!” She snarls dangerously, still scary even with her large baby b.u.mp preventing her from swinging at both of us.

”I am sorry, my Luna. But you have to understand that his demon spoke with me with fondness of Khole. He adores her unlike Dylan and the mate bond will not make Dylan hate her forever.” Nava spoke in a frantic voice only making a growl ripple through me.

”You, Faye, are overreacting. I merely told that mutt that she was not worthy of me and it is true. Only the strong are worthy for-”

”You shut up,” Nava growls, the burn of her hand still on my cheek when she glared at me dangerously. ”My Luna is correct. It was a dumb decision on my part to allow Dylan to see Khole. However, we should not prevent his demon from showering Khole with the love she deserves.” Nava tells Faye, clearly defending Cade and not me only angering me more.

”Hold on-”

”Alright. I will agree with this on one condition.” Faye nods, glaring up at me with a look that sent a cold s.h.i.+ver down my spine. Her sudden darkness frightened the prince of the demons...

G.o.d d.a.m.n.

That's a woman.

”You are only allowed to see Khole if someone is with you both at all times.” She says, my prideful thoughts of her disappearing within an instant.

”You can no-”

”Done. I will discuss more things once Cade is in control of his body. But for now, we wait.” Nava stared at me with once kind and sweet eyes, only now they were filled with horror and loath.

The memory of her looking at me in such a way made me growl to myself, all the witches avoiding where I was when I watched Khole's shaking hands hold out in front of her. The bandage around her head only providing a small comfort as she spoke the words of the spell so softly it was hard for even me to hear.

Nava stood close to Khole, worry set on her brow while avoiding eye contact with me. It hurt and angered me at the same time at her foolishness about my words early. It should be me that is anger.

She struck me after all.

It was a good thing that Khole had her bandage on because without her eyesight, she wouldn't know that Dylan and Cade were the same person. I resumed my position as Dylan once she asked us if I would be there when she did her a.s.sessment.

It both hurt and angered me that I scared her with merely one touch and I was hurt that practically everyone here preferred my demon rather than me.

Though I'd never admitted it, Cade knew how hurt I was to hear the words come from her mouth. And he wasn't letting me get away from having the deep longing to have her as well.

I only blame myself for not rejecting her yet, although she showed no sign of attraction to me when Cade introduced to him. She was... curious about us.

”Such a letdown.” A girl nearby whispers to her friend, my muscles tightening at her soft gossiping but I could see that Khole even heard her. My girl- I mean- Khole had some fantastic hearing for a witch, which only meant that she heard more than I originally thought.

Hopefully, she didn't hear the argument I had with Faye and Nava earlier...

”I know right? Some kind of prodigy am I right? Can't even spark a flame. Pathetic.” Another girl says a little louder, her snarky voice only hurting my ears.

I saw Khole clench her hand tightly, her body trembling when I felt the need to go to her. However, these women needed to be taught that she wasn't one to be messed with.

”Khole,” I spoke her name out loud, ignoring the annoyed stares I got while walking over to her. A few steps in front of her, I crossed my arms and stared at her shaky form before speaking again. ”Show these people you can cause some damage. Now.” I order, Cade snarling darkly at me but I could tell that she was relaxed slightly which was strange but I didn't question it.

”Dylan-”

”Back off, Zavier.” I snap at his advancing form when Nava stood up from her crouched position and stepped up to Zavier.

”My Alpha.” She stared at him for a long moment, both speaking telepathically before he growled and nodded to her in an agreement. Nava glanced over her should at me and narrowed her eyes.

Neither did a thing which pleased me when I turned my attention to the girl who was s.h.i.+vering as if it was freezing.

”Hit me with your magic. Show these pathetic mages they have nothing on you. That they should be afraid of your power rather than you be afraid of theirs. Hit me, now.” I order once again, authority running through my words as she frowned and clenched her fists. Both actions shocking Cade and myself but I didn't say a word.

”I can't do it.” She grits out, for the first time not stuttering while I chuckled humorlessly and c.o.c.ked my hands on my hips.
