183 Chapter 183: Bear Brigade (1/2)
In a relatively good mood, Caesar gradually made his way out of the palace while whistling a small tune. His suit was perfectly softened, without a wrinkle in sight, which caused his figure to look even more extraordinary as he walked toward the training grounds.
The morning sun was hung high up in the sky, heating up Rahvin kingdom with its summer heat. The knights and recruits who trained under the blazing sun were sweating profusely and beads of perspiration were flung out with every practice strike.
The older and more experienced knights directed the younger ones and a clear hierarchy was formed. At the side of the very organized knights, stood a rather tall and wide stone building, full of windows and an assortment of rooms.
It looked quite luxurious and not a blemish was in sight. Children of varying ages entered and exited frequently, and Caesar observed this from afar. Although most of the kids appeared to be of noble birth, the older teens seemed to be either peasants or a knights son.
Caesar then directed his attention towards the western side of the training grounds, where a large, desolate cart stood. It was full of wooden swords and armor, labeled ”devil weapons”. The handles of the weapons were riddled with blood-stains and sweat.
A small chuckle abruptly escaped from his lips as he reminisced about the good times he had shared with the knights. Of course, he planned to create even more memories with them, especially considering their rude behavior at the gates.
With this in mind, Caesar took a few steps forward and entered into the vast training grounds. The entrance wasn't guarded by anyone in particular and no one even seemed to notice his presence. In fact, he was only noticed by a few flame-bears stuck inside of their cages.
Their beastly eyes widened in shock, fear, and despair as they observed his walking figure. Even though they were animals, they still remembered the day when he had captured them and forced them to fight against small armies of humans.
Unfortunately, Caesar didn't notice the rather comical flame-bears and directed his attention toward the middle of the training ground. A middle-aged man with a cleanshaven chin and squinty eyes was currently training a batch of new recruits.
His hair was a deep shade of grey that was elegantly slicked back, creating the image of a well-groomed man. His appearance wasn't very eye-catching, however, he looked much more sophisticated in comparison to the others.
”Alright, alright, today we're going to go over drills,” the middle-aged knight said, ”since our marshall isn't here, I'm going to go over the basics. In our unit, we are basically frontal force, the ones who fight and die first. However, we are the wall that protects our citizens, as such, you should be capable of forming a shield wall formation within seconds!”
As his words ended, they seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. The young recruits sloppily formed a formation with many flaws, not caring about their training in the slightest. In fact, some of them were even talking amongst themselves or chuckling at a joke.
The young recruits were clearly nobles forced to come here by their parents to gain some sort of authority in the military. If Caesar's proposition was accepted, then that would mean the financial, judicial, and military factions were now separated. As such, it was normal that the nobles would try to abuse the system as much as possible, using their influence to enlist their children.
Alas, when you force someone to do something, it is normally done rather sloppily. Thinking to here, Caesar stomped his foot on the stone floor. A loud bang echoed out and a small crack formed, alerting the nearby knights and recruits.
Like frightened deer, they quickly shifted their heads in Caesar's direction. The knights and nobles who knew of his appearance, stared in shock, while the ignorant could only tilt their heads in confusion. Caesar's red eyes slowly squinted as he scrutinized the many knights who he had not trained for months.
